    How so? By playing games?

Too much is made of that.. it's not like BR ran him into the ground for an entire season. We needed him to play those game.

Adding 'squad players' will help us out going forward.

My main gripe with Sterling is that when he came on during the first half last year, he excelled. He was mismanaged imo and he was starting games and being used until he signed a contract. After that he was rested but his form had dropped by them and he was burnt out of the season imo.

He had a good pre-season but when he came on today he wasn't up to his own standard of play that I come to expect of him. Not gonna compare him to Henderson or Aspas, just on his own performances from last year. He's only a kid so I know he can't be fantastic every game he plays, but that doesn't mean I can't call a poor performance when I think he has one either.

Looks like they'll need to add a lot more than 1 striker to their team !!

Never understood the Suarez bid, they need a keeper and a couple of defenders more than they need a striker.

Who has he become a figure of disdain for?

    Hyperbole.

We could easily have won the game 6-2. It just depends on your outlook.

Ha suppose so but look at a different way, how difficult or expensive might it be to solve problems that lead us to leaking a goal here and there due to individual errors versus how much it might cost to solve the problem of not being able to take our chances?

Far too often, leaking that one goal has resulted in us drawing a match that we have otherwise down enough to win.

I think we have enough about us from an attacking perspective - in particular, we have young talents that will improve and improve their conversion rates. Our goal haul is pretty good relative to who we are competing with, as is the number of chances we create.

Our defenders are at or past their peak ages and aren't going to improve too much.

Adding a CB and DM would dramatically improve us.

    Toure says hello!

But I think everyone agrees, we do need some signings in defense.

Yeah I agree really. I think the best way to eliminate those errors is by improving the quality of the playing staff. For me, the centre back most at threat is Agger. He makes far too many mistakes for my liking despite his popularity.

Great win today. So many positive performances. Coutinho is getting better all the time.
The new guys Mignolet, Aspas and Toure really impressed me.

Overall it was a very decent performance today.

Everybody seems to have a much better idea of what they were meant to be doing tactically and we have come on along way from the start of last season.

Delighted to see alot of people changing their mind in regards to Toure :) I told everyone he was still a beast, also love his passion!!

I love watching Aspas, so clever. He will only get better.

Mingnolet was clearly nervous, 1st game at anfield. He stepped up when it mattered. Have no worries about him.

Bring Suarez back into the team and the likes of Willian and we have a serious attacking line up.

Feels great to get a win on the 1st day, it's been a while!!!!

Captain Obvious to be honest! We all know that a Papa (or Sahko) to preach to the defence would be a huge asset. No one can expect Toure to play pretty much every game and Skrtels future is clearly not yet certain anyway. The signs are that LFC are still in the market for a CB. I'd like a Diame lying deep as cover for Lucas but not sure we'll be signing one of them.

Wow. Everyone is being incredibly harsh on Sterling and it's unfair. He was not awful.

    Agree completely.

Last season I can understand why as we are critically dependant on him. We aren't this season and as such, his struggling performance don't really matter at the moment.

Fading into the background for a few months might do him the world of good in fact.

Its almost like a double win as well, means a greater chance they'll finally go down! :)

Just that Toure is past his peak but was brilliant today, shirt pulling aside. Twas a joke, is all. Still tho wouldn't like to be relying on Toure / Agger as CB's all season. Some signings are needed.

Willian is not Anzihi squad today?

    Anfield bound?

Can everyone please take a couple of minutes to themselves and learn how to spell our new Belgian keeper's name? /OCD

Villa look up for it for the last 15 mins of the first half, I've seen anyway. They'll be trouble if we flap around in front of goal without scoring, for too long.

Even with a home win on opening day, we're not completely satisfied! This thread won't last til the transfer window closes.

He is past his peak age in fairness - which is what I meant. It also incredibly unlikely that he is going to improve much on where he currently is at - which was also my point.

Anyway, you can see where my confusion came from no doubt.

Two signings in these positions would reason to be optimistic and positive about our lot.

A lack of good investment in these positions is sufficient justification to be very wary about our chances this season, how we are progressing relative to our competitors, to wonder whether Rogers is really the one and whether the owners are blowing smoke up our holes.

@Waseem__B I am told tomorrow is 'D-day when it comes to #LFC interest in Willian. We shall see.

If Liverpool were to add someone with the apparent quality of Willian into that front 4, I would expect us to have a real chance of pushing for 4th.

If Suarez gets his act together and is professional, then a front 4 of Willian, Coutinho, Sturridge and Suarez is as good as anything in the league.

Given the amount of possession we normally have we should win more and more games.

I thought we looked good today, replace henderson with willian and suarez for aspas and I think we have a good chance of top 4. No european football will be a huge advantage as the season progresses.

Jesus, could you not at least let us enjoy the win for a few hours before going at the performance like a junkyard dog going at the bones of a rotisserie chicken.
