I say so. My TUS supervisor said it was non profit business. The managers of the business said nothing to me at all about it.

Unfortunately i can't name the business as i am still there working. But this business provides a service and you pay cash for it on the day.

Its not a shop or anything like that.

I don't appreciate being lied to either. Surely my TUS supervisor was aware this was a profit business.

Are you sure its not a profit making arm of a non profit? This would be common enough, and totally above board.

I don't care if someone reads this and knows who i am.

It is an Equestrian centre located in Kildare. Non profit? They've customers coming in and out all day and they charge them a fair amount of money to ride the horses and stuff.

Non profit i don't believe so.

I googled other Equestrian centres they all have the label non profit. There not doing anything illegal it seems. But surely a non profit business aim is not to make money from what their doing.

These places don't charge cheap to customers either.

Tax avoidance scam probably too for rich people who run these places.

He actually decided that he wanted to be on the TUS scheme and put his name forward to his regret, No protective clothing, no first aid box on site, no site facilities, poor treatment, he was also informed that he wouldn't be taxed but he is. Asked to sign a contract without sufficent time to read, also sighned the handbook, a handbook that is in reality a contract in disguise. Poor treatment and very bad management, phone calls and texts out working hours. The contract has no value and wouldn't stand up in a court of law. A very shabby service and the TUS supervisors get 54k plus expences for their incompetence.

There must be a lot of pissed off people on this scheme.

No protective clothing, no first aid box on site, no site facilities,

the lobbyist cartels that represents the major record labels claims to be non profit. they make millions each year

While not-for-profit organizations are permitted to generate surplus revenues, they must be retained by the organization for its self-preservation, expansion, or plans

I guess thats why they the bosses at those place get paid so much

Are you sure of your facts? TUS Supervisors earn €31k.

And has he gotten on to his Tus supervisor and told them about the bad working conditions? The complaints you state above are a problem with the work placement and it's up to him to inform them that it's unsuitable if he wants out and into a different placement.

Also get on to revenue, it's emergency tax and will be refunded

Just wondering with regard to the Tús programme, I've been called in for a interview and am reluctant to be pushed into this. I've just finished a degree after four years of college after returning to education at thirty and am eager to get work. I've had a few interviews for real jobs and have applied for internships also, but I genuinely can't see Tús having any benefit for me or offering a position in the my area of work (software development). I'm finding that it might be necessary to complete an internship for experience before a permanent position comes my way and am more than willing to enter the JobBridge scheme. However, what worries me is if I am stuck on Tús, can I take an internship if a suitable one becomes available or will I be considered ineligible as I would not be considered unemployed? Also is there is any possibility I can prove my case that I am genuinely seeking employment and that I feel it would not be suitable or beneficial for me and be left to continue as I am? I just feel it unfair for genuine cases to be forced into something for a year when it might be pointless and affect my other possibilities.

nope once you get picked you only choice is to sign off the dole or take what they offer you.

the only thing they will prob have is doing websites for several different places.

the job bridge would be the only places where you could get work in your area and keep your JSA.

I would tell them you applied for few job-bridge positions and want to go with job bridge for the reason you listed

I'm over 11 months since the interview with the TUS Supervisors. So far not a word.

Just started tus this week, but wasn't sure of start date. Checked bank paid by job seekers and tus. If I go into SW office what should I do? Also didn't get €20 extra only 10 something. What's going on there?

You get paid a few days extra by the social on your first week of tus. This is because if you sign back on after your tus finishes you do not get the first 3 days paid to you.

You are missing some of your extra 20 because you have to pay a contribution. Can't remember if it was stamp or prsi or what. I am sure someone else in here will know

That happened to me too. Just get on to revenue and give them the tus register number on your payslip and they'll sort it out in jig time

I wouldn't be so sure about this. I was first called a year and a half ago - went to the interview and heard nothing after that. Now they are onto me again, want me to go to another interview (presumably to give them the same information I gave them the first time!)

There still doesn't seem to be a whole lot of information around about this scheme. Does anyone know what happens if you refuse to do it? Is your payment stopped completely or is a certain amount cut per week?

I was selected for interview in May 2013. Have heard nothing since.

There are about 7,500 position in total for the scheme for the whole country.

A placement lasts for 12 months so that's about 700 places per month coming vacant. I seems to me that they have put a whole lot more on the scheme than that so it is inevitable that not everyone selected will end up having to take a position.

When I was selected for the interview I had a long conversation with a guy in the INOU about the consequences of rejecting a position (or even just making itr awkward for them).

His advice was that they had 2 options:

    a) Cut you off JSA for a max of 9 weeks.
    b) cut you by €44 per week for a max of 1 year.

In both cases you can appeal and it is important to note that approximately 50% of appeals are successful.

I suggest anyone with concerns should give them a call.

Thanks for the info. I wonder if those two options apply as standard or if the penalties can differ from supervisor to supervisor as nothing seems to be set in stone with this scheme. I guess I'll find out for myself soon as I've been called for another interview. Joy!

Could do, but then they could just cut you off there and then and say you are being uncooperative. The thing is, in my area most people who are on this scheme seem to have been given jobs of picking up litter off the streets - talk about kicking someone when they are down.

In my chat with the INOU he told me of a case of a guy who did exactly that.

His dole was cut but the decision was reversed on appeal.
