youd be a lot better off watching 24 hors in a and e on after it , in stead of those plonkers

Was it any different for Take That or Boyzone. Jesus even the Beatles attracted the same kind of crowd, it's just part of growing up for a lot of those girls.

It's a lot scarier though thanks to the internet and sites like twitter, gives these girls a platform to make threats towards any of these guy's girlfriends and also show how REALLY obsessed they are, which is scarier.

Watching this now on +1. Overexcited groups of teenage girls are probably one of the scariest things known to man.

To see how this how looked in 1975, complete with news reports and worried faces!

Well apparently 1D fans are pissed off at the documentary showing the crazy stalker fans instead of how they really are.
I'm sorry but most of them are like that.

Bald for Bieber was perhaps one of the greatest trollings of all time.

I cant help but feel they cherry picked the most outrageous and stalkerish fans just for viewings, which is unfair on the girls. They all seem a little unhinged, C4 exploited them.

What was the story with all the shipping? They kept going on about shipping larry and harry together:

"we love them so we ship them really hard together, we love shipping them, we are always shipping them, shipping shipping shipping"

Did I miss something? WTF is shipping?

I don't know what that is, but I do know I'd love to ship one direction and their fans out to sea on a boat full of plastic explosives.

Shipping means you want them to shag. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shipping_(fandom)

They wanted the two lads to get off with each other for some reason. They seemed really into that fantasy as well which was really creepy.

That said i wouldn't mind seeing The Saturdays lez off with each other so maybe they're onto something there.

I don't get the massive attraction. Maybe I'm not into the whole 'cute' thing, but they're not very manly at all. I saw them in one of their videos in shorts and I'd a better body than all of them. You'd think they'd have personal trainers and all that. Suppose the ****ers don't even have to bother since girls are gonna throw themselves that them regardless.

Not one of them I'd ride. Well, maybe Liam Payne, the rest are skinny little boys.

Go listen to The Strypes, young men pursuing the arts of musicianship and songwriting. These guys have a trade for life. They're are paying their dues and earning their respect in the industry.

Just to to clarify boybands are part of the 'Entertainment' industry. Rock and Roll bands are part of the music industry. The guys in One Direction respect that in fairness, I've listened to them speaking on Stern.

To be fair to 1D, they seem like sound divils, and I could listen to their music. I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to it, but if it came on the radio, I wouldn't switch over. The same can't be said for 99% of the guff that comes on.

Anybody over the age of 16 behaving like this has issues. The 19 year-old with the pink hair has a lot of problems:(. Channel 4 were definitely exploiting her. They kept pointing out she was 19.
i dont mind the pre-teens being hysterical at all. In fact, id prefer them liking One direction than Rhianna/Katy Perry/ Lady GaGa etc. At least One Directions lyrics are completely harmless and they seem to be able to keep their clothes on.

Yes however the Strypes aren't in line to make a billion dollars this year...

Look, there's no point making any kind of comparison. The same people who listen to 1D are NOT SUPPOSED to listen to the Strypes - the Strypes are for people who think they are getting genuine rock n' roll (I beg to differ) whereas 1D are pop for pop's sake, and why bloody not? Its not like 1D are saying "kids - don't listen to rock music, listen to us!!". They're not going into the shops and putting all their CDs in with the Queens of the Stone Age ones and pushing people over if they have a Pixies t shirt on.

As for the fans, well fans always gonna be nutty! I remember witnessing a load of girls queuing up for Take That tickets back in the day, they were all going insane - and they were just *queuing*.

As for insane, well the Beatles had the most insane fans of all - Charles Manson, the "Paul is Dead" believers and of course Lennon's murderer.

(Its only a matter of time before someone starts a "Harry is Dead" conspiracy).

Young wans swooning over boybands/singers is nothing new. Some have even suggested it's a developmental stage in young female sexuality. My oul lad was at a club in New York just after the war and Frank Sinatra was one of the acts and he had his following of screaming and swooning bobbysoxers up front ruining proceedings. Before that they went batshít crazy for Rudolph Valentino.
It's a lot scarier though thanks to the internet and sites like twitter, gives these girls a platform to make threats towards any of these guy's girlfriends and also show how REALLY obsessed they are, which is scarier.
Yea, like any social trend, social media really concentrates, magnifies and spreads the madness.
Just to to clarify boybands are part of the 'Entertainment' industry. Rock and Roll bands are part of the music industry.
Both the Beatles and the Stones had them wetting themselves and screaming their lungs out too, so sometimes it can be both, though nowadays I can't imagine that kinda crossover. Duran Duran were probably the last to kinda have a foot in both camps?
As for insane, well the Beatles had the most insane fans of all - Charles Manson, the "Paul is Dead" believers and of course Lennon's murderer.
Yep. Imagine if you had twitter and social media back then. Scaaaaary stuff. Even without that they had to be careful. If they said the wrong thing the fans would go nuts. IIRC Ringo once mentioned in interview he loved jellybabies or similar and they were pelted with them at gigs. Lennon's response was along the lines of thank **** he didn't say he liked tins of beans. :D They and the Stones had regular death and bomb threats and young wan's threatening to kill themselves. The beatles even had people bring their disabled kids to them so they could touch them in some freaky near religious madness. One of the reasons they knocked touring on the head. It all got too weird. In many ways boybands today have it easier. They're more protected for a start and the machine behind them is well practiced. Back in the day it was a very new thing and the rules were being written on the fly, though press intrusion was far lower. Those bands were ridin their way across the US and no stories of "I rode Keith Richards and he was crap" stuff.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

Paul McCartney, who lived in London in the 60s, had a group of girls camped outside his house... 24 hours a day. 365 days a year. Everytime he went in and out of his house, there they were. You only have to look up some photos taken around that time to see the hassle it must have been:

    https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRY8JsHSztw7D892_jQGr2kHUz4KJB1sdmLrRA7WrJ7hsI8A5kTWw

Looks like he can't even get out of his driveway.

Yeah 1D are in a machine now, they are part of a juggernaut where everything is decided for them and they are really just players in a larger piece, they are protected in a bubble and they have to do what they're told; unlike say Zeppelin or the Stones in the 70s who would've had more power. they got away with a lot more because there was no Twitter and digital cameras and paparaazzi etc.

    #ripdirectioners #riplarryshippers

Hundreds/thousands of tweets calming between 14-90 suicides due to the hate they have received from this show... a lot of upset girls over these rumored suicides, no evidence or credible reporting of any as far a I can see.

    Mental

They didn't even win the X Factor, where were all these "Directioners" when the poor lads needed votes!? SHAME ON YOU ALL! I VOTED 25 TIMES AND MY MAMMY BEAT ME WITH A WOODEN SPOON WHEN THE PHONE BILL CAME!

I know boy bands and teen heart throbs or whatever they've been called over the years have always had their fair share of nut job fans but definitely the Internet and media have taken the whole thing to another level.

The crazy stuff that gets sent around is actually mind boggling. In fairness, apart from Bieber who just comes across as a douche, most people don't really mind boy bands or the likes-sure, they might not be into their music, but in all fairness pop is pop and it's fairly harmless. It's the fans that actually give them a bad name a lot of the time cos people can't understand why their fans are so mental.

Teenage girls will always create drama. I teach and have taught hundreds of them. I love them dearly but they are nutters. It's all screaming and hugs and Omigaaaaawd and nowaaaay etc but it's definitely made worse with Facebook and Twitter- I mean I was a teenage girl once and I'm so bloody glad none of that stuff was around when I was younger.

While they where the more unstable fans. There where scenes in the show that showed other people buying tickets in floods of tears and calling people to let them know that they got the tickets. The girl who when to the wax works was waiting in line to see them and the place had a professorial photographer. There was must more than just her that has a high level of fandom

That's like what I was saying about the girls buying the Take That tickets in 1994, going crazy cos they had actually gotten tickets.
