    In before the lock...

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

not a great signing unless Cissokho can get back to his Porto/Lyon form

Worrying, if they thought Siquiera was of the standard required then upping to £12m should not be a problem.

Siqueira is a far superior player to the Cissokho of Valencia, but if Cissokho arrived and recreated his first few seasons at Lyon in terms of form ( his Porto form only consisted of the five or so months of league time) then we would have a beast of a full back who would either force Enrique to up his game or replace Enrique.

Of the two Siqueira would be my first choice, but a cheap deal or loan deal for Cissokho would not be a bad gamble to take. He has the ability and he has age on his side.

    Lucas?

Can't see it happening (again)... Borini though would be my guess too.

25 million pounds will nab him I'd say. Shaktar have said they are willing to sell if they get an offer near what they paid....and they paid around 30 million. Liverpool clearly have around that amount if they were in for Mhikitaryan for 22 million.

It's possible. He going to want around 100k a week though. Bear that in mind.

Can't see us signing him at all. Would love to be wrong, but I shan't be getting my hopes up.

For all the big talk, money is not being spent. We are either saving funds for the big 'wow' signing, or else we are generally resigned to not paying what they perceive as too much.

If they are interested in upgrading the LB position they should have identified someone already that is worthy of spending a decent chunk of change on rather than trying to get the best cheap player as seems to be the actual route they are going down. This is unlikely to result in any meaningful actual upgrade unfortunately. There are of course exceptions, but either identify your man and go for him with commitment, or else admit that they are working under budgetary constraints.

He would be, albeit one that we would know has the potential to be a first teamer.

We do need a couple of proper first team signings, but would not be against bringing in some decent cover at left back should Siquiera be a no go.

Cissoko is a squad filler IMO nothing to set the heart racing really.

its probably the first time that a player that has been linked to Liverpool over the course of a couple of years has actually gotten in the door. Pity is wasnt Arda Turan!

while joking about the amount of posts this thread goes through, you thought it would be a good idea to display a league table within which we can now compete? interesting :P

Is Arda in the last year of his contract now? Would be worth a punt.

What i think the team will be Vs Stoke

    _____________Mignolet___________
    Johnson___Toure___Agger__Enrique
    _________Lucas_____Gerrard______
    _____________Allen______________
    ___Aspas______________Coutinho__
    ___________Sturridge____________

i would start Coutinho in for Allen & have Sterling on the left

Only 25% more than we were paying Downing. Or the same as we were paying Reina.

Adding Mignolet, Willian and Aspas, losing Reina, Shelvey and Downing, and we are probably still 20-40K a week better off.

To be fair though there's a big difference between having £12m to spend and and getting value for it. Would you be happy to pay £12m for someone we apparently valued at £4m - £5m? I for one wouldn't like to go back to the days when all the complaints were about us being taken for a ride with transfer fees.

If I'm being totally honest there probably is a happy medium between where we were then and where we are now. At the moment I'd like to see us splash the cash for a genuine improvement in the first team who fits into our plans - not splashing the cash on someone who's not worth it for the sake of making a "marquee" signing.

I'd be surprised if Allen doesn't start tomorrow. I reckon Sturridge will as well, and the only real question mark is whether it will be Sterling or Aspas starting on the right.

    I reckon it will be:

    Mignolet
    Johnson---Toure---Agger---Enrique
    Lucas

    Gerrard
    Allen
    Aspas
    Sturridge
    Coutinho

I'd personally like to see Allen out and Sterling in to start on the left with Coutinho playing centrally, but I think the above is what will start, with a possibility of Sterling in for Aspas.

Apparently the Daily Fail lived up to it's name and says that they reckon Suarez is likely to play.

To be honest I don't care how much they spend as long as he's of the quality we need and improves the squad.

I remember people criticising people spending £20m on Torres ffs.

for 1 'Marquee' signing you could get 2 to 3 decent first team players. IMO thats where Liverpool need to improve. Currently I think of the Liverpool starting XI only Mignolet, Johnson, Agger, Gerrard, Coutinho and Suarez are premiership winning level players. Perhaps a bit harsh on Sturridge there but he needs to start scoring 15+ goals a season in the league to be considered.

Bar mignolet the players we have bought this year have being all squad players

Toure I don't think was bought with the intention of starting in the 1st team, Papa was earmarked with Agger

What started out brightly with squad players being signed up quickly gave a false sense of hope that our transfer activity was being greatly improved compared to last summer

Given however we have signed no other 1st team players and the fact that we are unsure what Suarez will be at the club, how are we going to turn a lot of those draws into wins, ( celtic game although a friendly still reminded us of a lot of games last year, lots of possession etc but no end product ) and stop teams attacking us through the centre (hopefully lucas with a full preseason behind him can regain his form.

Here's looking forward to tomorrow and lets hope stoke are less physical than last year,
    mignolet, johnson,toure,enrique,lucas, allen,gerrard, countinho,aspas,sterling
