Players losin the PR battle here... The fact they have handled this so badly would suggest that some of the more experienced leaders on the team may not be in favour of getting rid of Ryan?
To want to get rid of him is fine, but to handle it so terribly is weird

I see no positives in this, the world and its wife thought he was right, as a Déise fan i wouldn't be following if i couldn't find the silver lining ,but my god ,i feel more low than i did walking out of croker in 08

i thought our future was assured , i felt so great in semple the last day, and now this ****e , every day the player dont speak i get more and more angry at them, if they have reasons they would be well to say them

Who ever conjured up this should never again be aloud on a hurling pitch. I really thought we were moving in the right direction and Ryan has made a decent team out of them young lads.

As the vice captain informed him, we can only assume that the captain voted against him which make this an unholy mess. Players' silence makes them look really bad and Ryan was quite decent about it all, didn't bad mouth them when he could easily have.

If he does run again and get the job, are the players who voted against him going to walk?

That man is a true gent and does not deserve to be treated like that.

I hope he picks up another job, he has unreal passion for the game. Sadly it will probably be outside the county. A true gentleman and I was delighted to have the opportunity to speak with him after the minor match in Cork.

Agree with you on the captain issue but I'm reluctant to speak about individuals until we hear something from a player.

I'm sorry to bring it up again but it looks more and more like it was an City club coup to take Ryan out. Serious consequences for county panel if so.

Im just so sad and upset for Michael Ryan.I mean like if Waterford beat Kilkenny there would have been a statue of the man erected in Waterford City and who knows maybe Waterford could have been looking forward to an all ireland final appearance on the 8th of September.Waterford were down a lot of players but they clearly were making progress this year. It's a disgrace that Michael Ryan wasn't allowed to build on that progress.

He took his name out of the running, no one else. He obviously feels he was too rash with his decision and upon mature reflection will most likely put his name forward again.

it sounds to me like it is something has been orchestrated by a clique of maybe 2-3 ringleaders. There is a lot of young players on the panel who would be easily influenced into voting with them. i think its unfair to ask young players in their first or second year on the panel to be voting on a manager. The players have no business holding a vote like this, unless it there is an overwhelming feeling for a change or at as a last resort.

i cant see how there's a way back for him.

surely if hes lost the players confidence then there's now way back at this stage?

the whole thing has been handled very very poorly by all concerned.

i know two players on the panel who said he was a running joke between alot in the squad...ryan said he didnt think they had any problems oon RTE earlier.

whether there was a split already in the panel or what who knows.

Well if Mullane was involved then he is a liar because he's already after going on record stating that he had nothing to do with it. Molumphey wasnt involved this year so i cant see whats it got to do with him exactly.

Why is he treated as a joke by some of the players? Surely it cant be because he has a strong country accent? I assume the scully nickname comes from Kilanascully or whatever its called. Surely it cant be just be city v county nonsense. Very small time if so.

Molumphy is still abroad is he not? They hardly had him in Skype out in the ramada did they? Didn't get to see michael ryan on Rte but from what I've heard he was very dignified, it's a pity the players couldn't treat him with the same level of respect that he's showing them. If I were him I'd be naming & shaming but it's plain for everyone to see how much of a gent he is that he isn't resorting to that kind of stuff.

Those 3 seem to becoming the accepted leaders which might explain the lack of a statement.

I could understand it if Waterford had a disastrous league and championship but they didn't do that bad considering that they were without guys like Mullane and Molumphy.Waterford were just a puck of the ball away from beating Kilkenny in normal time! The margins between deemed the greatest thing since the sliced pan and being deemed the most useless fella going are very small.

Disgusting. I hope Ryan does go back and none of them are ever seen in a Waterford shirt again.

Just watched it on RTÉ Player. Jeez, Marty is a terrible interviewer. You don't let the subject waffle on like Michael Ryan did. We know the facts of our season, we didn't need him to regurgitate them. However, Ryan was very dignified overall. No sly digs. I really can't get over the narcissism of staging a heave against him on the morning of the Minor semi-final. Whatever the reasons for the dissatisfaction, it's going to be very hard for the players to get past the optics of their behaviour in that regard.

Ah in fairness, there is no proof that these men were involved and one of them has already written in a national newspaper to deny involvement, I think he's entitled to the benefit of the doubt as are the others. Nothing has been confirmed

I wont be supporting them next year anyway. Ive lost all respect for that team after seeing that tonight. Ill cheer for the minors hope they do it but not that crowd

I never thought i'd turn on the team, who are we killkenny? but this stinks, his results are undeniable, if they had good reason surely it would be known by now .

I would hope he takes the team again and anyone who doesn't like it can step down,he's made racehorses out of mules before he'll do it again .

I was the first to him on the pitch in semple,a nobody , would hate that to be his legacy .

I was looking for tony browne , but he ducked in the tunnel so didnt get to say goodbye :-(

Not to say he did this or did that coz frankly I dont know but seeing as he played the in the club game against Lismore a couple weeks ago, he has been home a while now, so no skype calls were necessary..

I don't like coming on here with negativity usually. However, I've been talking with two people very close to the set up and two names that both came up with, that appear to have been instigators, that no one else seem to have mentioned are Noel Connors and Shane O'Sullivan. They appear to have been very involved, as well as Moran, mainly.

That woulda mean both this years captain and vice captain were main players. Interesting. Didn't hear a peep out of Moran all yearlong in captains role but has the balls to pull off this kind of manoeuvre.

In fairness to Michael.. He played the victim card to perfection.. Did some name dropping and then said he was going again ha.. Unreal.. The man has some neck..

Captain would wanna speak up now though and tell their side of the story cause ryan is bleeding them dry at the moment..

Top class coach lined up.. What a spoof.. I wonder how many nights ger cunningham was there cause id say i could count it on one hand... Cullinane defence coach ha thats some shout too... ]

I want waterford hurling to improve and we werent going too with a spoofer like that in charge.. Spent 3 hours with flanagan prob as long as he spent in the field doing physical in the first year...

Who asked him for recap of the season.. Offaly banana skin. since when.. when did they last win a decent game.. Cody said hardest we ever ran kk.. Did he forget the league final and the time if fag o brien hadnt missed the pick up we were in an all ireland..

Surprised he didnt get a call from obama to commiserate with him. His selective opinion was laughable.. What happened Bro Ryan Michael or Nicky Cashin.. He had the neck to hanging in there then..

The fellas ringing in were on the piss down in Kerry with their club..

There are many Ryan families in that area. Scully is a family name, nothing to do with Killinascully.

He mentioned Noel Connors who rang them. I knew that, so I assume most people did. Doesn't mean anything other thant that Connors was asked to say it to him.

Obviously he's speaking purely from his own point of view, it's only one side purely that we are hearing but at the same time he made several points that resonate with me a lot.

How could it be allowed that only 11 turned up to the meeting? If you were holding an AGM, it wouldnt take place as 33% of a panel is not a quorum. That's shocking that lads were rung up to give their vote. And I firmly believe that the reason there was 11 was because those that wanted him out for forcing their own agenda and didn't want those that would vote in favour of him influencing the meeting at all.

The irony of it all is those that don't like Michael Ryan generally seem to argue that those that like him have some sort of personal liking for him, and yet display clear disdain for his personality as evidenced above in the posters language. The hypocrasy is simply incredible.

Your ignorance of the situation and the man in question is glaringly obvious and as a result your opinions are not worthy of debate. It's such a shame that there are people out there who are so quick to belittle men like Sean Cullinane and Michael Ryan who are responsible for much of the good days we have been lucky enough to have had in GAA for this county at many levels because these men gave such an effort. Is there any chance in future you could show the slightest bit more respect to those who deserve it and keep in mind that at the very worst these men have gone out of their way to do the genuine best they could for our county regardless of whether their methods were or were not at the same level as their efforts were.

Truly the most awful post I have seen written on this thread from a fellow Waterford supporter. Given the practically non existent budget the county board have at their disposal, who would you regard as the most suitable candidate and what do you think we should have achieved in the last two years that Ryan didn't?
