Buying a house with partial extension no planning

I am about to purchase a second hand house with a septic tank.
There is a partially built extension that wasn't finished (one and a half walls). As far as I know, there is no planning for this.
Can I just knock it down? or will I be inviting authorities after I buy to check the septic tank too?

it depends on location of the extension and size. If it did not need planning to start with then I don't see an issue knocking but you should get a local architects advice.
