ESB Contract Work.

My son has been offered a job as an Electrician with the ESB. You can imagine our delight at the news.
Now, he has been told its only for three years. He was led to believe after finishing his appritiship with them that the job would be full time. Is this the norm with the ESB??

How many hours per week has he been offered? That's really what makes a job full-time or not.

The hours weren't mentioned, all he was told was, that the ESB no longer offered full time contracts.......yet other people have old me this is not so. I would hate for him to be made a fool of.

Sounds good in the current climate. There would be a queque down the road for those jobs. I doubt anyone "is being made a fool of" :cool:

Typically they'd offer a 3 year contract- which may or may not be extended, subject to prevailing conditions 3 years down the line, and what agreements may be in place with the ESB group of unions.

The information given to your son, is in fact, accurate- new starts are on 3 year contracts- not fulltime permanent positions- however- they may change into permanent positions- subject to recurrent fixed term contracts

3 years is exellent at the moment. Even to be kept on within ESB is a feat in itself!!
