anyone done the trident question in 2011? why is the 5% minority holder dealt with in the solution for cese, should this part not be more suitable for indicator 3, in relation to the practical/cultural issues of operating in kenya?

    Hi Guys,

Would anyone have solution to APM session 5 & 6 supplementary questions??

I don't think there was any ? Taught it was just 1-4

Just checked my notes and downloads, no solutions for session 5&6 sorry! Re the sample papers, I can't see any anywhere? I only have past papers, mocks, and smaller case studies used in class if they're of any use to you?

    Thanks a million ;)

Was looking at old mabf - wondering is WACC on the APM course?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 131 ✭✭kb6536

I don't think the calculation of it would come up, it's not really what the course is about, I'd say we'd be given the WACC to use in investment appraisal. Maybe calculate the effect of new loan/equity issue on the cost of capital, but (hopefully) not at the level of CAP2 SFMA difficulty... hopefully lol...

Ya i taught that too ... just in the mock there was a Semi company valuation and i would nt of expected that to be there either.

I dont think they will get to technical. That year with the long NPV was rotten tho..

Other than past papers what is everyone doing? The comments from the mock have still shaken me, I'd hate to fail the elective. But I'm not sure how much use CAP2 SFMA papers will be?

i was hoping to just do past exam papers, mocks and sample papers. i am doing core so i have dont have much time. are you doing core as well?

Trying to do the old mabf ... every case I do at the moment I get stuck n have to read the solution !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 131 ✭✭kb6536

Yeah I'm doing core as well, that's the other thing - trying to balance time spent on both! Do you have sample papers? I couldn't find them anywhere

Lol I don't think I've managed one case yet where I've had to dive into the solution!

I am the exact same. The only sample papers are the pitem, plustherma, global that were on the student portal and then the mocks for 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 and actual exam papers for 2010 - 2012. To be honest i find the book is alright for models but it is totally out of date for now.

I hope core can help with it too. Yeah balancing time is the tough one here because core is massive!

Ya like all the case study stuff at the back is totally outdated... Are ye trying to update that info ? Did anyone try Pharma Inc - mock 2010. When reading the solution it seems so easy but there is no structure to the case and hard to know what there asking . Feel I'm just reading solutions

I think they will provide updated details in the exam and we will analyse based on the facts given. (a bit like the mock) I cant imagine them wanting us to update it ourselves, well I hope not, but thats what they said on the last lecture.

I don't think there is enough practice cases for this at all ... Like compared to the core .

Definitely agree with this, partly scared to waste the papers! Like with core I do some practice cases which seem to be at such a higher level of difficulty, then I do a past paper which seems to calm me a bit

Surely they can't expect us to update the info that's in the book? Must admit questions in the book have helped me for investment appraisal, SFMA didn't go into as much detail on the exchange rate for interest/inflation etc

Just a tip someone gave me that I found handy.

I ve got all the APM cases bound in one book and its handy not to have them all over place .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 370 ✭✭Dmac_Aca12

Ya I'm the same trying to keep the cases for when i know more but at same time stressing when I don't do them as feel there there the only way to learn . Scared that if I do SFMA and old mafa I ll waste time practicing something that's totally different to the exam

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 524 ✭✭✭Mark1916

Finding some of the stuff in the sfma toolkit useful enough just for practising especially the risk decisions chapter if people have access to it. Prob goes into a little more detail than what we need to know

yeah i know what you mean there is not many q to practice. I read a good bit of the book but when I went to do cases I did not think it was great, apart from the models to give you guidance but that is it. I am kind of scared of this one because it is wishy and washy, there nothing definite on it like. Apart from a few things, the paper seems to me a bit random!

Ya I feel like there s just a bit of every subject in it. I done the whole book and felt great but cases seem all over the place and so not what's in the book. sitting here half not knowing what to do in it.

ya i know what you mean and the sections are all over the place like for example part of the competency 4.1 is in chapter 1, another part in chapter 5 which is really annoying. I find the lectures from session 5-8 seem a blur, it those areas i seemed not to be tuned into at all!
