So this is something I've always been curious of.
What counties do you believe are nice places to live, that contribute a lot to the country be it tourism, industry, or whatever.

What counties do you have a bad impression of, and would never even like to live in.

Basically, rank Irelands counties into Love/meh/hate.

I made a quick little map for mine.
    http://i.imgur.com/iMfPZtv.jpg

Green = I like this county, believe it has some or a lot of positive things about it and wouldnt mind living in it.

Orange = Meh, I have mixed feelings, or dont have any opinion about this county.

Red = I would hate to live in this county. I dont have many positive views of it.

Now, this is entirely your own opinion, and is only supposed to be a bit of craic. If you think x county is horrible because the people there are unsaviory, then thats fine, just dont turn it into a huge debate if possible :pac: (I'm asking for a lot of restraint arent I?)

    Here's the template http://i.imgur.com/L9nhKSr.jpg
if you want to colour in yours. Just use MS paint or something, then re-upload it to imgur. Use whatever rating scale you want to, or just do it like me.

What are the odds when everyone thinks of the 32 counties, the last one which is remembered is Leitrim??

I haven't actually painted any counties red, as I don't think there is any county in Ireland that I'd hate the idea of living in. I've left Counties Kerry and Donegal green as I've lived in both and quite like them. Roscommon gets the green as I'm from there and the surrounding counties get green because they are close by and are all places I'd consider living some day in order to be near to my family.

I have a feeling that counties Roscommon, Leitrim and Longford will get a lot of red votes (Sheep shaggers, boring, nothing there etc etc) but I can hand on heart say, having lived in many different parts of Ireland, that where I grew up in Roscommon was a great place to live and I hope to get back there some day.

Dublin gets the vote aswell just because I wouldn't mind living there, just for a year, same with Belfast which is why Antrim is green.

Yeah, I'll admit I gacve roscommon and a lot of the midlands red simpyl because I would hate to live somewhere so isolated as that. It seems like theres absolutely nothing there to do or see.
No cities, not many colleges, no transport hubs, and in general I view it as the "bogger" part of Ireland.

Thats a term I NEVER use. I'm not from dublin and I hate when dubliners call the rest of the country boggers, but I guess thats the easiest way of explaining how I feel about it.

Very low. This is because Leitrim is usually first in a list of long counties to be mocked. This time the OP has cleverly expressed their thoughts by colouring in which is a bit more novel than saying "duurrrr Leitrim crap, no traffic lights and called Leitrim" I suppose.

Louth and Limerick = definite negative.
Waterford, Cork, Wicklow, Wexford = definite positive.

There's no county I would flat out refuse to live in. I've travelled Ireland a good bit, each have their good and bad points. Wasn't crazy on Waterford now but didn't see an awful lot of it to be one way or the other.

is the country not a bit to small for this? every county/city/town has positives and negatives. to label an entire county a ****hole or "arsehole of a place" like a previous post is ignorant beyond belief. As for no traffic lights in Leitrim, surely that's a positive!

One thing I always find is, that so many people say they hate Waterford. When really, its one of Irelands hidden gems.
If you take time to see the city, its actually quite beautiful. With the huge river suir flowing through the middle of it, and nestled in between 2 gigantic cliffs its very unique and has a lot of viking history to it.

I know its an eyesore to many, but even the giant abadoned north quay docks and hotels are iconic to me.

Also, Waterford county has a beautiful coast on par with the west coast. Lovely cliffs and beaches (not just tramore) for miles, and the esturary at dunmore is lovely too. But most people not from Waterford dont get to see this unfortunately.

I guess thats another point of this thread. You can dispell any misconceptions about a specific county you like/grew up in.

Fair enough, you should visit the midlands though sometime, I think you'd be pleasantly surprised. As for transport hubs, Athlone is probably the most accessable urban centre in the country after Dublin.

Not sure if you quoated the right message but whatever.
I dont know, I guess I've heard so many stories from people who went to Athlone IT telling me its such a dreary town, I have this image of a dull small town where its constantly drizzling rain and overcast there.

You came full circle with your thread in that post.

Anyone from a county (for myself, it's Roscommon) will point out what they like about it and what those who criticise it don't see.

There's a lot of things in the midlands that get's swept under the usual "bogger" jibes around here.

Clearly no experience with geography either, given that you think there's 7 counties in the north.

Because it is a pointless exercise that even a child woud feel patronised doing.
