That doesn't make them average. Chez is going to be quality as will Jenks, Jenks isn't first choice.

Podolski has 100 caps for Germany, had a very good first season out wide and scored some important goals

I think Giroud could become a 25+ goals a season man or flop so time will tell.

    All are well above average

ive been hearing that for a while now - other than patches I haven't seen much evidence of him being quality. id go with fabianski for the start of the season and im not even a fan of his.

I thought podolski had a reasonable season no more no less. it certainly wasn't "very good" like you suggest.

disappointing enough weekend - hoping we can get reinforcements in before the start of the season. we really need some.

Giroud did good in his first season. A new league with all the pressure on him to perform. He did very good under those circumstances in my books.

He deserves a chance this season to show what he has got. Judge after the first 5-6 league games this season.

5-6 games sounds right. Sure, then Suarez's suspension will be over :pac:

Last 8 games last season, again today he was excellent, he is very young for a goal keeper and I expect him to come on again this year.

Podolski was very good last year came up with some important goals and wasn't playing in his preferred position through the middle

I 100% agree he scored some very good goals but I think his all round play was lacking. ill reserve judgement till this season ends but I don't believe hes good enough to be a first teamer for us. well see though.

I like chesneys attitude but hes been knocking around a while now and seems to be still very raw. I personally don't like the idea of allowing players to build up experience in the first team - that's what loan spells are for. he may well turn out to be world class but for now hes a long way off that. he shouldn't be our number 1 in my view.

What do players have to do in the 1st full season with the club in a new league to constitute a good season?

    In the EPL last season:

    Podolski - 11 goals, 10 assists(joint 2nd highest).
    Giroud - 11 goals, 4 assists.

In my book that is good for a winger, and far better than reasonable.

What were you expecting? 20 goals and 20 assists?

yeah that's exactly what I was expecting. sarcasm by the way. 11 goals in 33 appearances for a team like arsenal isn't great no matter what way you want to spin it. decent - that's it.

So of we replace him, and the replacement winger has similar or inferior stats, then we replace him too?

You're not going to get better from a wide forward first time out though. Or at least it'd be very hard too.

    Just back from Croke Park.
    I see we lost today.
Who played well and what areas of the team were weak please?

errr where in my above posts did I say we should replace him? interested to know this please.

I said ill reserve judgement till next year. i think there are players out there that could offer us more from that position but like i said well see what the upcoming season holds

Ramsey played well. Miquel was pretty poor. The defence missed Koscielny. Would have loved to have seen him keep Drogba quiet.

Yup. Replace Podolski - that's my current thinking. We need to sign a new player instead of him. Replace that guy. In fact I might see about changing my username to replace Podolski. Man I would love nothing more than replacing him

In all seriousness though, I just figured if you didn't want him in the first team, you were looking at someone new. Forgot about Caz playing there. No offence meant.

I think people know I'm a big Giroud fan but several times around the end of the season I said that he did as well as Drogba in his 1st season in England. He's far from average in my book and we can judge him this season. Knowing us though we'll fudge him up like we did Chamakh and we'll be left with him being wasted and Suarez leaving if he ever comes.

All in all, I think Giroud is good and I want nothing more than him to prove everyone who criticised him last season wrong. His all round play is good anyways, improve his finishing and he'll be top drawer

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,746 ✭✭✭✭Galvasean

Looks like Gervinho and Chamakh are on the way out in the next day or two to Roma and Crystal Palace respectively. Between them, Santos, Arshavin and Squillaci that's a lot of dead wood shipped out. I think it leaves our squad a little bit on the small side though. We could really use another couple of signings to boost numbers.

only bendtner left now : )

I'm wondering if we still have a 23??

    Fab/Scz

    8 def including Miquel

Arteta, Ramsey, Wilshire, Diaby, Le Coq, Caz, Rosicky.

    Walcott, Ox, Pod, Ryo.

    Giroud, Sanogo, Bendtner.

Obviously 23 doesn't matter because we're looking at homegrown as well but straight away you can see we need players instead of

    Diaby/Coq, Miquel, Ryo, Bendtner.

So 4 players from a great squad.

    2 stellar signings

And as many squad fillers as we like

Star striker and some sort of midfielder I'm thinking AM

Think we will be sorted then

Coq has been loaned out and shure we never have Diaby.
    We need players urgently.
Those young lads are only fringe players and should only be used for Coca Cola Cup. It's seasoned pros we need and good ones.

Haven't heard it called that in a while :pac:

I agree tho. We are very short on players. 4 or 5 signings big or small are definitely needed

    From the Telegraph:

@TelegraphSport: Arsene Wenger says he cannot predict if he will have any new signings before the season starts
    http://t.co/ufKSHuzg0L

Mentions that Dortmund are looking at Ginter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,746 ✭✭✭✭Galvasean

Loaning out Djourou appears to have been a mistake. We're going into the new season with only two fit proven center backs. There must be plans to buy another one.

That and a defensive mid. I cannot see his logic in loaning Coq out without getting another one in.

Rodgers bad mouthing us saying we are disrespectful in bidding for Suarez, starting to dislike him lately.
