Ruthless Rye is an amazing beer.

Agreed. I was fussy last night and couldn't settle on just one beer.
The problem with Mulligans and other craft bars is that I sit at the bar looking on the shelf and in the fridge and am already contemplating my next beer after only a sup or two of the first.

    I do the same.

Isn't it great to be able to do it though.

O'Hara's have a lager out, sampled it in Farrington's yesterday.

    It's vile.

Curious. I thought it was one of the more flavoursome lagers out there.
Much better than the likes of Fischers.

    So is Green Bullet.
Whats 'vile' about them? Thought the Carlow Helles was decent on draught myself.

Tried a bottle of Five Lamps yesterday, was in the mood for a non-threatening beer that wasn't particularly fancy and it turns out that's exactly what I got.

I refuse to believe O'Hara's do a bad beer!

Five Lamps was a bit better than I thought it would be. Decent.

Is it the o'hara's blonde? Bit on the bland side compared to their other brews but calling it vile is a bit harsh.

    It's Helles

Am I going mad or did I see the Helles in The Stags Head?

Stuck to Galway Hooker in any case!

They have 2 O'Hara's taps in there. I think it's always O'Hara's IPA and then a rotating line, last time I was in they had Natural Blonde on so wouldn't surprise me if Helles made an appearance.

Mikkeller Green Gold. Decent. As usual, not worth the price.

I had a bottle of svyturys amber beer with dinner. Not bad, but nothing special.

    Their cirum is abysmal.

Actually, I haven't tried that, to be fair.

Having a Ruthless Rye after seeing it mentioned today. Damn fine beer. I think Torpedo is still my favorite SN beer, with their Porter a close second, but yeah, this is great.

Curim? I actually really enjoy it. It has a fresh hoppiness to it but without being as heavy going as their pale ale. Nice and crisp too. A curious wheat beer. I wish they did it on cask.

They sometimes do. I'm not a fan of it bottled or kegged, but the cask version is usually stunning.

The O'Hara's delivery driver told me there are a few casks of Curim coming up that are going to have fruit added to them, which apparently takes it to a whole other level.

Though personally I'm not a fan either. :P

I've had a few of the first batch of Galway Bay Full Sail off their new brew kit tonight.

Its the same beer but so much better. The hops have much better utilisation on the new kit and as a result the aroma is much more citrus and floral abs the taste is much more grapefruit on the front with a big malt sweetness following but still has that bitterness at the end.

Its the sane beer, but much, much better. I'd say Chris is delighted with it.

Aloha Series, Koko Brown from O'Briens is a really great little beer. I grabbed it before reading it properly, and was worried when I saw it was a toasted coconut Ale, but, much like Rogue Hazelnut Ale, it's a subtle touch. Very nice, quite sweet. I'd buy this again.

In the last few days I've had:

To Øl 'Raid' - nice hoppy lager; had it before a few times and will have it again. A good one to help former serial-lager-drinkers like myself get more acclimatised to hops, I reckon.

Mikkeller 'American Dream' - same style as above but hoppier and stronger tasting/ had more aftertaste. Improved as it came up to a slightly warmer temperature. Would buy again.

Einstok 'White Ale' - fresh, crisp, not too hoppy, very refreshing. This Icelandic brew is another one that could help sway lager drinkers away from their 'usual suspects'. Looking forward to getting more of this later in the week - highly recommended.

Brewdog '10 Heads High (Imperial Red Ale) - Don't think I'd have this again, moreover at €4.30 per bottle. It tasted - to my inexperienced palate, at least - like a red ale crossed with a Belgian ale. Maybe one for the more experienced red ale drinkers, but too much of an acquired taste for me.

Straffe Hendrik - I find a lot of dubbels and tripels a bit of an acquired taste as well, tbh, but I'd have one of these again.

Mountain Man 'Green Bullet' - wouldn't be in a major hurry to have this again. A bit watery and slightly flat, IMHO, and not bursting with flavour either. Would rather pay another quid per bottle for something better.

This is good to know. Somehow I always thought that Curim was a slightly offbeat beer that Carlow only did in bottles; the runt of the litter. I wonder who gets those elusive casks.

Otter Creek Black IPA, very nice but not too hoppy. It's brewed in Vermont, I read that IPA's from the US East Coast aren't as hoppy as those from the West Coast.

The Bull and Castle would get the occasional one. From what I've heard Curim was the first beer Carlow made so there could be a nostalgic reason for keeping it going.

Should be there at the RDS festival as well.

Had a few over the weekend.

Oakham ales scarlet macaw — very tasty nicely hopped.

Milk stout nitro — stunningly good.

Baile pale ale — like mountain man was pretty forgettable but still nicer than the usual 4 on tap :)

Orval — lovely, but wouldn't be my favourite Belgian.

Dungarvan comeragh challenger — not bad not great nice nutty taste.

No, just... nothing special. Bit like Molsons Canadian, or similar generic lager. It's not BAD. But it doesn't really stand out either.
