By challenging I meant having a decent chance of winning it, with Fellaini being our only improvement.

    No then

Im not a fan of Fell but I dont deny he'll improve our CM but that shows how poor we are in the center when a player like Fell can improve our CM by quite alot imo

We need a creative cm and then get your cm enforcer

We have no chance but if we could get Fab we would rule the world :D

    "Challenging" yes.

Winning it unless we do a Liverpool on it, no.

ah here we are not that bad.

The big teams in Europe have all gotten stronger. We have not. If we are to match them we need 2 world class CM or at least one.

The frustrating thing is we are not that far from being great side.

My post also related to fact that if we did win Europe no way will we win PL too.

We are not strong enough to win both. Something we should be aiming to do.

Has Fabregas actually made any official comments since these bids were put in for him? Its strange that he had not come out to state that he would categorically not be going anywhere and with the lack of information coming from his camp as of yet we can still live in hope that he is perhaps undecided.:D

Nani scored a free kick against Crewe.

Its not strange at all; it's not annoying one set of fans in case you end up playing there next season. He won't annoy Barca fans by saying he's off in case the deal falls through, and he won't deny an interest in United in case the deal goes through and then fans are going "but he doesn't want to be here".

All the lack of affirmation one way or the other shows is that the bid has a chance of going either way.

Do people think we'll be challenging in Europe if Fellaini is our only signing?

Having a good chance of winning it with Fellaini being our only improvement?

No we won't. Our midfield is suffering badly from chronic underinvestment, we don't need one new signing, we need two or three. One of the reasons I am so annoyed with United this transfer window is that even if we get Fabregas, we need other signings on top of that and where are they? Where are the other players we are linked with?

Its seems to be Fabregas, then Fellani if we don't get Fab, but it should be both of them and then another. Maybe then we can compete, and start to get rid of the dross.

Its actually quite rare that our club buys the proven complete player. Im sure I dont need to tell anyone in here the policy at United.

i dont know if i agree about having no chance to win both. it may require a bit of luck in fixtures but its by no chance out of the question.

if rooney stays we have more than enough to spread out the strikers. wingers again if nani stays and him and the other 2 we had last year step up from last year(that surely could not be hard) and adding zaha\januzaj\lingard to that i would say we have enough options there for wingers and ,adding kagawa(maybe even playing on the wing), for someone to play behind the striker. defence i think evra, buttner, evans, rio, smalling, vidic, jones, rafa and fabio is more than up there with anything around the top clubs of europe.

yes CM is a trouble area but i think carrick and fellaini(if he was the only signing) would be a awesome pairing for us with cleverley as first choice backup i would ideally add another one CM as anderson would likely not be able to be relied on and giggs and jones while ok options for certain teams is not ideal for big teams unless jones is simply there to frustrate which as was shown last year he is more than capable of.

i wouldnt say we would be favourites maybe not top 5 for europe but i also dont think it would be unthinkable and we definitely wouldnt have to do it at the cost of challenging for the title too.

also in terms of needing luck a) i think every club needs luck to win a knock out tournament like the CL all it takes is a couple of bad decisions and your out could happen to bayern and could happen to barca.

and at the end of the day i think with a player of the caliber of RVP i wouldnt say we are unable to score against any team

What would people make of Christian Eriksen? I know he plays in the CAM but I'm pretty sure he'd be quite decent in a 3 man midfield, has a lot of potential too and wouldn't break the bank from Ajax. I'd love to see him and a more proven CM come in this summer but thats just dreamland kinda stuff

Well nothing is impossible, but doing well in both competitions would require us also having to be sure nothing happens to Carrick or Fellaini (if he did sign).

I think the last 2 seasons have proven United squad is not good enough to compete in both competitions. Now we do have young squad overall so you would think that the players will come on from it more overall as a squad. So hopefully that will happen.

But being realistic if Giggs starts in a game against Munich or Madrid next year can you honestly tell me that we have a chance of beating any top side with him in it now?

The demolition at the hands of Barca in 2011 should have been wake up call. It wasnt

Getting knocked out at group stages season later should have been wake up call. It wasnt

Totally going AWOL after Nani got sent off against Madrid should be wake up call. Third time lucky I hope.

yeah i wouldnt want giggs starting against barca, madrid(he did do quiet well against them last year :D in fairness last season ) or bayern but ideally it wouldnt come to that. yes i would ideally like us to sign 2 cms but i was just saying instantly saying we could never win both is a discredit to the players we do have. i hope we sign say fellaini and someone else for CM and it would make challenging for both alot easier. in fairness i think we had a lot of bad luck against madrid last year. not just the sending off but the fact that RVP was in his dry spell at the time he had 2 or 3 chances that 3 or 4 weeks earlier and he would have buried them and you would hope that wouldnt happen again. kagawa was only really coming back into the team too.

again im not saying we will do both but i wouldnt instantly say its impossible if say we only bought 1 CM especially if it was fellaini and again i would ideally want 2 but i was just addressing that we would need to be as bad as liverpool did in the league the last time they won the CL.

    Nani with another one there.

Happy to see Nani in flowing form,

His bit part appearances last year were hard to take, if he hits form along with the others and the rise of Zaha we could have dominant wings again, which have been instrumental in so much of our success

If Spurs get 90m for Bale we should really think about acquiring the services of Daniel Levy, the man is some businessman you have to give him that.

Fellaini would be great buy, but we still so desperately need somebody who can take control in the middle of the field.

Fabregas can do that while offering a good presence with Carrick when defending.

I be happy with Fellaini no question, but Fabregas would offer us something little more that we need.

Buying both while long shot would be insane summer.

Have you heard any more news from your sources regarding Nani? Really hope he stays.

Fellaini is off to the States now with Everton, so that would not be a easy deal to wrap up if we do intend going after him.

Gundogan looks set to pen a new deal at Dortmund also.

Lars Bender would be worth a punt. Good player. Reckon £20 million would be a good price

If we signed Fellaini, got the best out of Kagawa and Nani by playing them regularly and in their proper positions as well Zaha playing to the potential he has shown so far pre-season, they I would be quite confident we would be able to challenge.

Not so certain we could go on and win in, but by adding Fellaini's steel to the middle as well as Nani and Kagawa's ball playing ability I would certainly be a lot more confident then watching midfields consisting of Giggs and Jones.

All in all, I wouldn't be gutted if we were to sign Fellaini and that be our only bit of business, would probably go as far as saying I would be happy with that and excited to see how the team do next year.

But ideally Fellaini and one more would be my wish.

Well I do know he was not "offered" to Monaco.

If he was it would have been done much earlier.

    Im confident he will stay.

edit:Could he leave? Maybe but wont be because of United wanting him out

Reading a quote from someone on redcafe that Moyes wants to give Januzaj some first team football this season. Can't find any quotes from Moyes myself.

I'd like to see him stay involved in the first team then getting sent out on loan.

    Does anyone believe that sh1te?

The problem is with so many people involved and/or trying to get involved in transfer dealings these days that someone could have offered Nani to them.

Basically until he signs a new contract speculation will continue.

Same here. He has some raw talent.

Players I reckon will be sold anyways are Bebe, Macheda. With Fabio back now I wouldn't mind getting rid of Buttner. One of the worst defenders I have seen play for us. Good going forward but a headless chicken at the back
