Good ridance to bad sh*te, the hape is going to the yard today :D unfortunately I don't get the enjoyment of seeing it getting crushed as I'm away playing soldier for the week :p

Well I bagged myself a car to drive around in for the next two days:D (mah weekend, I work sat :()
Out of the MX5, the 750i, the AMG Cclass, the Saab 900 turbo and countless E class estates guess what I got.

Yep that's right, It's the ancient Opel Zafira :pac: It's showing 250K km on the clock, smells funny, has 4 winter tyres form a brand I've never heard of and it was 34ºc today.... Not quite the interesting drive I was hopping for! At least it's a 2.2 not the ****ty 1.6 (still not fantastic though) oh and the fuel gauge doesn't work :p But at least it's a car, I hope to explore the Alps tomorrow:)

    Pretty much, yeah!

Manuals are necessary on a track where you need 'complete' control over gear changes, similarly a lot of race cars have no ABS. I just don't see the need for a manual for daily driving, hence peasants and race cars. ;)

I appreciate a good auto box but there's plenty of useless ones too. There's more decent manual boxes than there is autos in this country at least.

Well then consider me a very proud peasant :pac:

Now if you don't mind, I have fields that need to be ploughed :p

I'd have to slap someone if they bought an MX5 with an auto box.

Autos, for the lazy and the gridlock commuters. ;)

There may not be a need but there may be a want. IMO it depends on the car, on your 520, Id only go auto but on a 325i it'd have to be manual.

    Simples

I went out of my way to get a manual e60, I hate driving autos. There's nothing like pushing on in a manual on a twisty Road, going up and down the box.
Even if ye auto chaps are a little quicker :)

my mam has an automatic ml280.
I found my old manual polo easier to get to 50km/h than hers with 4 times the bhp.
It took all the fun out of driving as well and changed gears when you could push it much further.

This is why you get one with paddle shift ;)

You can push even more on those twisty roads when you have 2 feet for 2 pedals, and can shift in less time than it takes to blink.

    As I said, lazy. :p

I'll remember that the next time DGT is fixing your power steering pump ;)

I decided to opt out of driver aids, no more power steering for me. :D

This of all the things I've spotted over here really took the biscuit though

Found a car that I'm slowly starting to adore, checked the price and I'm 700 short :(

Time to start selling myself again!

Decided to change the plates from the plastic ones on my focus.

    Any suggestions on type ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,106 ✭✭✭SpannerMonkey

depends how new the car is . personally i think metal plates of any kind look god awful on modern cars , on older 90's cars they look great but anything newer than early 2000's they look crap. the acrylic ones look way more natural

Where can you buy number plates anyways?
The plates (the actual sleeve that numbers are printed on) on my girlfriends car are slightly crumpled and look a bit crappy. Nothing fancy required, just some simple legal prints.

Bah. Tax book would be with herself... in Galway. Was just thinking I might sort that out for her next weekend. She mentioned it was annoying her.
