I remember when cigarettes were not frowned upon, you could smoke in the cinema, on the plane, on the train, you could buy single cigarettes in the shops as a teenager and children could even buy little packets of sweets that looked like cigarettes and came in a cigarette shaped box.

My granny is always complaining about the cost of living. "When I was a girl, you could go out with a shilling and come back home with a dozen eggs, two pints of milk, a pound of bacon, half a pound of tea and a fresh chicken."

"Yes," I said, "that's inflation for you."

"It's nothing to do with inflation," she said, "it's all them ****ing CCTV cameras they have nowadays."

I remember when 12 men walked on the moon.

They don't go there anymore. Pity. I am sure the moon is lonely.

I remember a time when we got belted at school for misbehaving and if you told your parents you got another slap or two. I remember when tv channels closed down at midnight and there was nothing else to do but go to bed. I remember when I would leave the house before 9 in the morning and wouldn't come home till 9 at night, someone always fed me and no one ever came looking for me, I was less than 10yrs old. I remember when Starwars came out and I was too young to get into the cinema to see it but my dad went, I cried till he came home again.
