got a reply to the email i sent to customer service having ordered the PS4 directly through sony on sony.ie. i asked about stock and if they expected to be able to fulfill the promise of release-day shipping/delivery. this is the most important part of the response

"it should be available for you probably during November maybe earlier.
If will some updates, we will definitely contact all our customers with pre-order for PS4 first.
In this time you can follow up our website."

happy enough with that reply, it seemed to go through an eu customer service office rather than ireland. so i guess pre-ordering direct from sony would still be an option for people, only drawback is full payment up front.

I love how all of them say "it should be". :) They all keeping themselves save as there will be war on launch.

Yeah, Just back from my local Gamestop now and I asked about the likelihood of my getting a console launch day, I pre-ordered mine on the 16th of July, and he said I was "95% likely" to get one on launch day, but that he couldn't absolutely guarantee it.

    I remain cautiously optimistic....

He also said that they weren't taking in anymore pre-orders for consoles on launch day, dunno whether that means Gamestop Ireland as a whole or his particular branch...

A few people have mentioned here that their stores are not taking anymore for launch day and have a second list now for people to get them when they get more stock in.

I'm getting mine in GameStop. Have the console, ghosts, Fifa and battlefield paid off. Now just to pay off an extra controller. Think I'll download assassins creed or watchdogs from the store passed on reviews after launch.

How many launch consoles will shops get would you say?

I pre ordered in Smyths and they said there have been 70 pre orders so I would be 71 on the list.

I preordered an extra controller too and the dude in Gamestop said theres a good chance they wont be available til a few weeks after launch. He couldve been talking through his hole though.

One of the Smyths stores told me they were guaranteed at least 50 consoles, & also showed me 'the list'...of which there were 71 people on it at the time.

I asked why there were signs up in store stating a console was guaranteed on launch day if you pre-order now, & how they can guarantee such without even knowing how many consoles they were getting for sure. No real answer was given.

Yeah I kind of got the same answer. I asked would I be guaranteed one at launch and the girl said we'll stop taking pre orders when Sony tells us to do so but Id say Sony wont tell them anything until closer to release and at that stage it will be too late.

I just don't want to top up the smyths gift card they gave me for a few months and then I find out I wont get one. Doubt I could get that money back.

Suppose the empty promises guarantee profits for the company with hopeful customers placing deposits on consoles, no way to treat your customer base really.

Gamestop reckon depending on store size, about 75-200, of course they could get more or less, mine is only expecting 100 and bundles are included in that number.

It might be a silly logic but is there a chance that each Smyths would get more per shop because there are less Smyths stores than Gamestops?

I would say each company will be given the same quota of consoles, so you could see more in Smyths, but less in the country as a whole, seeing we have less companies selling them than we had with other console releases.

If customers who have pre-ordered consoles are left disappointed due to shortages on launch day, how long will it be before replacement stock comes in? Like will it just be a matter of a week or so, or will we be left waiting until after Christmas? Would suck to be waiting that long having pre-ordered in the summer

Depends on the launch date and how quick they can manufacture the console, it definitely will be longer than a week though, quite possible that if it is a late november release, the second batch may not appear till 2014. It would suck more for the people who had the foresight to pre-order back in February, I have no sympathy for people who have only pre-ordered in the last month or two if they do not get one.

Im number 5 on the pre order list in my local gamestop, so I should get one on release.. would'nt worry about games selling out at launch, Id say there will be way more games than consoles, besides if worst came to worst you can always download from playstation store....
I know that gamestop, and was speaking to the head of Sony Ireland. That shop is only getting 4 consoles.

Nice. Definitely a good idea to buy a couple of games on discs. Imagine trying to download Driveclub on launch day and you find out it's something like 20gb?

A sign outside Gamestop Cork says release for PS4 is Nov 18th and Xbox One Nov 21st both TBC
Also apparently they have 179 PS4s left and something like 168 Xbox Ones.

How they have so many ps4's available at this stage of the game is beyond me. unless it's 2nd batch stock they are referring to.

Gamestop in Galway told me they weren't taking in anymore pre-orders for the ps4.

Good that we have an approximate date to go by now!

Yeah I don't get it either, when I rang a few weeks ago they told me they were getting 200 and that I was 66 on the list, it doesn't add up unless someone is bad at maths :)

Local Gamestop told me that anyone that has pre-ordered a console since last Sunday the 21st is automatically going on the second batch list and not the launch day one as that is now closed

I pre-ordered mine on Tue 16/07 and even I'm doubtful as to whether I'll get one on launch day or not.

The Cork store must be talking about 2nd batch stock.

Ah it can't be out Nov 18th, it's a monday! At least I hope not. I'm sure everyone would prefer to get their hands on it on the dawn of a nice rainy weekend. :D

They shouldn't really be putting that up when a date hasn't even been announced yet. Some sort of marketing tactic? Although I doubt they'll be short on people wanting to buy one.

Anyways, the previous PlayStations came out on Friday so hopefully they continue that trend.

They do have an asterisk beside it and they do say TBC, unless they are trying to get the jump on the Xbox, I still reckon it will be the 22nd of November.
