Its deceptive, you will find if you tried to cut it with a saw your arm would tire before you got all the way through. Thats surface rust IMO.

Sand it down (with say a flat head screw driver/scraper, then 80grit, then 240grit) till no more parts are falling off then coat it with Kurust (get it in Halfords or B&Q). Wait 3hrs, then repaint it (with Hammerite or similar). Then paint it some more.

The only pipe I had to replace of that type was a pipe carrying power steering fluid, ran from the back to the front and it ruptured on one spot where it bended over on itself at a tight angle. Think it was moving around a bit too which likely accelerated it.

But your example, while an eye sore, looks very salvageable. Also coat the entire area when you are down there with the Kurust.. it leaves everything a reassuring blue black, like so:

    E8806BE0-05DA-44DE-B4AD-A147831F00F5-9585-00001151541043C0_zps17460238.jpg
No sanding there at all, just brush washed in water, dried then Kurust. Had I been worried about aesthetics I could have them looking like new, but I was just weather protecting them till I sell them.

    Thanks Matt.
Spent 45 minutes under the car this evening scrubbing with a wire brush and then sanding with 80 grit.

It looks better and less corroded but still not great. Having said that, I think the line is perfect, its rock solid like a brick. I'm just apprehensive about spraying it with anything in case they think I'm trying to cover something up.

Spray both sides. Do it nice and neat with a bit of masking tape. They'll never know.

I've been following that very closely, they just point blank refuse to hear the other side of the story, to them people in cars are the devil and they all gang up and make sure the person knows it

Right guys. I need ideas for a fancy dress costume. It's a festival event in my local town. Everyone dresses up you look out of place if you don't. I previously dressed up as the stig, Bottle Of bud, Tri colour Morphsuit.

Dress up as dgt (though no-one knows how he really looks apart from that green jumper with the thumb hole in it) and go around all night solving simple problems by taking engines out of cars.

White gaffa tape the whole thing onto the bumper :pac:

ah now, but maybe the holes are a bit worn :pac:

double sided sticky tape or bit of silicone ?

i wouldnt care if it ever pulled off paint of the bumper, its a part of the bumper thats never seen !

Well now the holes are well used by the looks of it, looks like they had bigger in the past :pac:

I'll get some doublesided tape in the morning and try it, mines on the boot so I can't go ruining it

    weld it :pac:

3M double sided tape is stupidly strong stuff

    T10sS7XiJdXXcbi2fa_091037.jpg

Or you could try a screw tap, to re-thread the hole and use a bigger screw.

The tape is looking to be the safest bet, I'm getting pressed plates soon and I don't really want any screw hols in them so this is the perfect time to experiment (again, that is what she did say)

I'd advise you use as little as possible, it's damn near impossible to tear off. You'll be trying to take the old plates off for a good 20 minutes when you get the pressed ones! :p

I've used similar stuff before, model making and the like, nothing a scalpel and some swearing can't sort :P

    But advice duly noted :)

Just remember, you can't so easily get a scalpel behind your numberplate and you're in the realm of paint removal then!

I might be able to, there's a rubbery padded bit so I might be able to gouge it out, sure I'll figure it out as I go!

Why is there such a lack of Mk1 1.6 Focus Hatchbacks on the second hand market ? :( Either all saloon or measly 1.4's.

Bet you max is reading this and mad to get in on it. I bet he's been out hunting for then after his ban :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 659 ✭✭✭Katunga

I'd say max is cyclist watching everyday wanting to get his revenge.

About two months ago In rub a Dubdub I seen a cyclist go through a red light between O'connell street and O'connell bridge get flattened by a car 4 garda were on the beat on O'connell street. Once the Gardas seen that he was ok they started eating the head of the cyclist. Then off the cyclist went with the Gardas with his bent bike up O'connell street. Couldn't see what happened after as I was getting a bus.

    This made my day :pac:

The full dress code includes some raggedy Ferrari runners, oily jeans, grey dunnes stores t shirt and either the green norge or a seriously shredded Carlsberg hoodie, wooly hat optional. Every second word must be a swear and arms black with oil :p

    A night out sorted! :D

    re: cyclists

I think I've seen it all now, I'd an old man in a high vis jacket cycle the wrong way across a roundabout straight towards me
and then cycle the wrong way down a one way street against traffic on the Victoria Road here in Cork City yesterday morning

He's up there with the cycilist I came across swerving side to side trying to get to the top of Patrick's/Richmond's Hill about a year ago, without a helmet, light or any bit of high vis clothing.

I have to get a dashcam as both times I'd to stop dead and wait to avoid any chance of them crashing into me.
