Remember Travis ?, the Scottish band all over the radio and MTV about 99/2000 era

Pigeon Detectives, as well, called 'landfill indie' by the NME

Kaiser Chiefs also belong in this category for me as well.

Just because you or the NME think these bands are rubbish does not make it so.
Suggest renaming thread to 'Bands which I think are rubbish when I look back on them'.

Not really redundant.

It's usually expected that a person's attitude attitude toward a band will change over time. I'm sure most people here are not still listening to the same bands they listened to when they were fourteen.

I used to love Oasis back in the Definitely Maybe & Morning Glory days. Then I realised they'd basically ripped all of their best material from other bands. In saying that they had very good taste (The Beatles, Bowie, Velvet Underground, Primal Scream et.) so listening to them at a youngish age opened my eyes to a lot of my all time favourite artists.

I used to quite like Feeder about ten years ago or so, even saw them twice. Now I can't help but think how rubbish their brand of inoffensive, bland radio-rock was.

Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay, Oasis, Stereophonics and just about every other British Indie/Aternative band.

Apart from Portishead and Radiohead

True enough. In that case I would put Megadeth, Metallica and Dream Theater in there. Bands I thought were rubbish way back when, I find myself listening to them now...

Antics was a very good follow up as well. it was after that, that things started to unravel But both those albums still hold up as being great records.

I would agree with this entirely. Only last night I was running some oasis lyrics through my head and realised how empty and similar they are to current chart music. It was pop all along! Damn you to hell it was pop all along!!!

I wouldn't say it's a case that people matured and suddenly thought Oasis turned into a rubbish band. I just don't think they matched the quality of songs that were on their first two albums. As in, they churned out music of lesser quality...

totally agreed, most bands quality diminish over time. There are exceptions but I think most bands 1st and 2nd albums are their best.

Oasis first two albums, in hindsight, are actually quite good. Some quality songs on some of their later albums, (Don't Believe The Truth), but first two have songs that still hold up today.

I think a lot of people maybe fall out of love or move on from certain genres of music. I know when I started it was all heavy metal heavy metal heavy metal. I wouldn't even entertain other types of music. Then I got into the Seattle bands as they burst on to the scene, and found stuff in their music that I preferred as I was getting older. I still dip into heavy metal sometimes these days, and will always give it a chance. I wouldn't have any interest in seeing Metallica again for example, as I don't think one of their gigs will offer me anything I didn't get when I saw them in 1992 and 1996.

But I find myself listening to types of music at 36 that I wouldn't have entertained at 16. I can't explain why that is. I'm open to all genres though, and especially if a band is trying to be experimental or original.

I could go a year without listening to some Metallica, then chuck them on and go "yeah!!" But then I could put them down for another year.

As a musician who attempts/has attempted to write music, I have a love/hate relationship with a lot of the music I grew up getting into.

Maybe people lose interest in bands, because they are constantly discovering new music. There's just so much bloody music out there! It's hard to get the time to actually sit down and LISTEN to an album in one sitting. Do nothing else but listen to it.

I'd agree with most of this.

I'd add I have far less tolerance to what I determine ****e now than when I was younger, that said though I listen to a much broader range of music than I have ever done.

It depends on what question is being asked.

I had a passing intrest in Metallica when i was younger and wouldn't rate them at all now. I'm sure i have some obscure 80's and 90's bands that'd make me scratch my head if i dug the albums out now.
That's gonna happen because you're always trying new things out / new styles etc.

There are very few bands that will get better over a prolonged period of time or even maintain the same level (except radiohead and the national (minus the new album)), so the level of enjoyment you get from a band is likely to decline (if their new material continues to get worse).
For me, the strokes would be an example of this. I liked their first few albums, and while they have new material released, it does nothing for me. Bloc Party and the Manics too to a lesser extent.

If the question is "are there acts you were really into in the past, that in retrospect, you think are rubbish?"

There's not too many bands i was into down the years that i wouldn't still like now. As i said above there are some bands i really loved and now like a bit less. I really liked the 1st few oasis albums as others have said, and they're probably the only ones that i couldn't listen to now
