Here is one of the most talented, sexiest, and successful popstars of the 80s . . . . appearing alongside Kim Wilde.

    RIP Mel.

That's one of my favorite Christmas songs., because of him and Kim.. Great chemistry.. Seemed genuinely cheerful. Rip

Aaa, balls. Grew up on Smith and Jones.

Well, he had a great life and made a lot of folks laugh, Id call that a success.

I'd say hed want a party. not a funrel.

But what about a fun reel ?

Was only watching a re-run of Not The Nine O'Clock News last night. Great series. Loved the Swedish Chemist shop sketch. "I want a deodorant....." :D

    Rest in peace.

My father used to watch Alas Smith And Jones every week so I would watch it too. I was slightly too young to watch Not The 9 O'Clock News at the time although I've seen it more recently on GOLD.

The likes of Alas Smith And Jones were full of original material. It was far funnier than later sketch shows like The Fast Show or Little Britain which consisted of the same characters churning out the same unfunny catchphrases week after week. There aren't enough decent sketch shows around nowadays.

Also one of my favourite Christmas videos and definitely someone who will be greatly missed.

For those younger folk who won't remember him as a comedian, himself and his comedy partner Griff Rhys-Jones founded TalkBack productions who produced a lot of hit shows.

    From BBC News:
Smith and Rhys Jones together created Talkback Productions, which made a number of much-loved comedies - among them Da Ali G Show, I'm Alan Partridge and Never Mind the Buzzcocks.

I was a huge fan of Not the Nine O'Clock News and thought Alas Smith and Jones was great.

We've lost a real comedic talent and a genuine nice guy here. RIP Mel. :(:(

But what about a fun reel ?

If your being a grammar nazi, this aint the place. I hate your type.

If that's a good natured jibe, fair enough, Im drunk and spelling aint great.

What do feel about the emotional content of my comment?

Are you a fan of Mel's work?

    RIP Mel...you'll be missed

(oh and btw I reckon he'd love that it still gets called ALIAS S&J, after all these years the joke still gets missed.

I grew up watching Not the Nine O Clock News & Alas Smith & Jones.

    Great shows.

Even though I didn't see him on the telly for a while, I was genuinely shocked to hear of his death at a relatively young age.

Aww, that's sad :( I called someone fat belly gut bucket the other day (it's from their sketch on darts players). My husband had no idea where I got it from so we had a good giggle looking at it on YouTube. Stil very funny :)

weird timing that I was just talking about him though.

RIP to a very funny man. My favourite clip from "Not the Nine O'Clock News" - not suitable viewing if you're in the PC brigade! :D

    I am actually :)

It wasn't a jibe aimed at you nor a grammar nazi post which I share your opinions off !

It was aimed as a little tribute to the man himself - take a bit of a random tangent off an innocent statement. Kind of humour he went for. No offence was meant to you.

    Yeah, love that sketch.

"When I captured Gerald he was completely wild"

"Wild ? I was furious" :D Love it.

Shocked at the news. Only 60. Wow.
