Without coming across as some Jim Corr lunatic type, I have to say that I'm astounded by Operation Northwoods, which I first heard about today. The joys of Wikipedia

For anyone unawares the US Military made a number of proposals for false flag operations during the height of Cuban tensions. These included bombings aimed at both civilian and military targets to garner support for a war with Cuba

Thankfully JFK didn't entertain these ideas. But it's mad/fascinating that they came from the highest echelons of power withing the most powerful country in the world at the time

Anyone else not heard about this until now or is it just me?!

Ya but it's the very fact that these plans were put before the president of the United States by military top brass that's shocking to me!

As rioting raged out of control across Northern Ireland in August 1969, for Jack Lynch and his government it was the biggest crisis to have faced the country since the start of the Second World War. Remarkably, within weeks the Irish Defence Forces drew-up top secret plans exploring the possibility of taking military action in the north - including an invasion. Revealing the details of those extraordinary military plans, this is the story of what happened during one of the most dramatic and dangerous episodes in recent Irish history - and it's the story of what could have happened 'if Lynch had invaded.'

9/11 was proposed as a viable mechanism to promulgate war around the same time. Only they didn't call it 9/11. But that's just mad stuff, right?

Notrthwoods was a dreamt up hypothetical scenario and never approved. If you want to look into a real massive conspiracy; look at Operation Snow White.. where the Church of Scientology successfully infiltrated the US in many countries, through security forces, embassies and privately owned companies. They seized and destroyed countless documents which could have been used to cripple the organisation.

It is the single biggest breach of US security in history, and the group still operates there with comparative ease while wars are fought over less scary stuff. It'd make you wonder.. but as they say; Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.
