Sammy's happy at Celtic, hope he stays - really important player for us the last couple of seasons:
    http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/celtic-star-samaras-insists-going-2058971
GEORGIOS SAMARAS has told Neil Lennon he wants to sign a new deal at Celtic because he has never been happier at the club.

The 28-year-old Greece international has been with the Hoops for five-and-a-half years but insists he wants to stay at the club even longer.

Samaras has 12 months left on his current deal and, after Lennon revealed he’d use some of the cash from Victor Wanyama’s £12.5million sale to tie up his stars, the frontman is keen to sit down for talks.

Speaking on the eve of Celtic’s Champions League opener against Cliftonville in Belfast, he said: “I enjoy my football here. I’m at a club where I feel well.

“It was important to me to find an environment where I feel good because I’m away from my country, my family and friends.

“I need an environment that suits me and here I am. I’m not surprised how long I’ve been here. I always felt I’d be here a long time. I feel great at this club and that means everything to a footballer.

“Celtic made a lot of sacrifices for me and I did for them also. We have an understanding relationship and that’s why I have been here for nearly six years.

“I have a great relationship with the manager and if he wants me, I want him as well.

“I’m still young at 28 and I can see myself here for a few more years. I’d never say no to a new contract, if they offer me something we can discuss it.

“Will I finish my career here? It’s difficult to say as I don’t know when I will finish. It could be at 33, 35 or 37.

“You never know how your body will react with age. I need to be playing at the top of my game but I still feel good at Celtic and I think they feel good about me too.

“I just want to keep winning trophies with Celtic.”

In last season’s Champions League, Samaras created history by scoring in five away games on the spin against HJK Helsinki, Helsingborgs, Spartak Moscow, Barcelona and Benfica.

He’s one of Lennon’s key men on the big stage and will be vital in the quest to reach the group stages of the competition again this term.

Samaras wants to relive the experience and ensure Celtic are back among Europe’s elite this term.

He said: “We gave the fans a lot of happiness last season. We gave them some special moments. But it has gone now, it’s about reaching that level again this year.

“We all want another good season in Europe so it’s not about who scores the goals or who is the man of the match in these qualifying games.

“Last year is in the past now. Hopefully we have learnt from it and can put in a good performance in Belfast against Cliftonville.

“It’s so important that we have a repeat of last season.”

Amazed the PSNI (and UEFA and SFA) were willing to let this go ahead to be honest. Couldn't they just swap the dates round?

They did swap them this should have been Celtics home tie but Clifftonville asked for it to be changed.
I imagine to capitalise on a full ground. If the first leg had bed played at Parkhead and the tic had pumped them they obviously thought they may not have sold as many tickets for the second leg

I don't think the original fixture dates would have made much difference tbh, it would have been in 6 days time instead. Silly season goes on for quite a while up North.

I dont think 6 days is going to make any difference. The mindset of loyalists runs for 365 days of the year. Least this way, Celtic havent taken up their full allocation and more so the chances of trouble are vastly reduced.

I'm wondering are there base elements trying to keep the unrest going especially because of the match tonight. Unfortunately it remains a recurring theme within Orangeism and Unionism at large. Despite the peace process and the peace dividend that they got in terms of funding for their "cultural" events, the leadershipof the OO operate with the same old tactic of encouraging the knuckledraggers in their number to come out every summer and on other occasions with the strategy; "we will be violent if you give us what we want, we will be even more violent if you don't give us what we want". It's the leaders of Orangeism and Unionism that are ultimately to blame, they know exactly what they are doing.

Why should a European soccer fixture between Cliftonville and Celtic have to be moved or changed to accommodate the despicable tactics of the OO and the weakness of the complicit Unionist politicians? Hopefully there will be no flashpoint and Cliftonville and Celtic fans will be able to enjoy the occasion.

Indeed, the problems in Northern Ireland are firmly rooted in the fact that Celtic drew Cliftonville...
Of course, this doesn't explain the rise in republican violence and "dissident" actions over the last couple of years, or the general weakening of relations in general up there, it's simply an anti Celtic thing.

That's not what I said. You know what I said, you can read what I said, but you would prefer to ignore it because you can't justify the strategy of the OO and the weakness of the complicit leaders of Unionism to bring an end to this annual display of violence and intimidation, most of it directed at the security forces.

Back on topic, looking forward to the match and the occasion. Anyone see any sign of the line ups yet?

Why would I want to justify the lunacy of what's happening up there right now?
    Enough of your nonsense.

If you really think that there's trouble in Northern Ireland because Celtic are visiting then you're more twisted than I ever thought.

Celtic team v Cliftonville: Forster; Lustig, Wilson, Ambrose, Izaguirre; Commons, Brown, Kayal, Forrest; Stokes, Samaras.

Strong team hopefully get the job done.

    .

I just said in the previous post why I think there is trouble around the Orange parades in NI and it's not because Celtic happen to be playing in Belfast tonight. You know what I said but you are twisting away from that and trying to make out I'm saying something different, usual stuff.

Now enough of your nonsense, take it somewhere else, football to watch.

He was always going to name the strongest team possible because we are vulnerable at the moment due to it being so early in the season. I have serious reservations about Efe Ambrose considering he's only had one training session and had a minimal holiday since the Confederations Cup.

Hopefully not a repeat of the Juve performance!
