Ah but how else would we fund the six figure salaries, the free rent, the free vhi, free gym memberships, free language lessons etc that our politicians are privy to

I thought the import duty allowance in Ireland was anything past €220 or so?

I looked into this recently and I definitely don't remember it being as low as has been mentioned in this thread.

I bought a dress, top and skirt from Japan for €50 and got charged €25 in fees, I know clothes and games would be different but am sure when I saw the €22 it was for general stuff not just clothes. Can't remember was it email or website, I'll check it anyway

    C. Consignments of Negligible Value
Consignments not exceeding an intrinsic value of €150 may be imported from outside the EU without payment of Customs Duty. Intrinsic value is the value of the goods alone and does not include insurance and freight).

    Bugger....

A couple of years ago I got 4 unboxed super famicom games and sfc controller delivered from Japan, it spent ages in customs. When finally I got their letter for payment, they had based the customs valuation on 4 New Nintendo DS games and a Playstation 3 controller. They had also very kindly applied a special exchange rate to the shipping charges whereby they took all the dollar signs on the invoice and straight out replaced them with euro ones and charged me their calculated percentage on that.

Also don't forget the handling fee they charge as well which, was something along the lines of €15 on top of everything else...

Your right, it won't be duty just VAT on anything over 22euro but under. €150+ you will have to pay VAT and Customs Duty.
Anywho, fun times for them finding out how much something is :) if there isn't an invoice/reciept in the box they might even just ask for a scan of the paypal receipt.

The news gets better and better.
The total cost of the items is €80 including shipping.
I'll just have to wait it out.
I have sent a message to hit.japan, the eBay seller, for details of any included invoice, so I am forewarned in my dealings with the Customs.

They'll make up the value so best to have a receipt with the real value handy.

It does help to have a obliging seller at times like these that has a dislike of writing any numbers over 20 ;) I read somewhere of a seller offering to include a birthday card with any purchase if needed to convince customs it was actually a gift.

You can pay extra on playasia for them to mark it as a gift. I know play.com used to mark all purchases from them as a gift.

I'm guessing Hit Japan do not mark items as gifts, pox on their houses!

Bought an eprom burner from a friendly chap on A.O.

    DSCF6041.jpg

Should come in handy for PCB repairs, conversions, hacks, special versions or just updated revision roms .
Just found out I also need a eprom eraser but they are cheap so I just ordered one from ebay Hong Kong for € 11,-
I have some eproms so when that eraser arrives I will have some practise sessions .

Can you get new chips and burn stuff onto them? I've sf2 world warrior and sf2 champion pcbs. The champion had no sound originally. It was missing a chip on the board pointed out by someone on jamma +. So I took the same chip off world warrior, put it on the champion edition pcb and it worked. Still missing one sound chip though to complete the other board.

Just got off the phone with a nice man in Irish Revenue, and he has decided to give customs and VAT rebates to all A&R users who import goods from Japan!!!!

    Eh, no.....

    No, sadly not :(

He has told me that the delay on my Namco Museum is that the computer that looks after such things is "out", to lunch, for coffee? who knows?
Maybe the old 386 has met it's Waterloo, perhaps that extra 8mb of ram they installed in 1998 has packed it in.
    Hard to say.

So, I was asked to fire off a copy of my receipt to them, so I "printed" to pdf from my Paypal account and sent it in, hopefully I'll have an email from them this afternoon/evening of my liability and I can pay it and move on.

I wonder if I should mention the other stuff I have incoming from Japan as well, so they can look out for them?

It's like Parcel Motel, but it costs more..... hey that could be on the Customs posters!

No, feck it, at this point I just want to pay it and play it.
He asked me what was in it, I said a few videogames, then he asked me to email over the receipt, not interested in attempted fraud over Pacman tbh.... now if it was Robotron, I'd probably sell my mother for Robotron....

Took a risk on a 32x from adverts, acquired the link cable from ebay & had a spare PSU.

    It arrived today.
