She is dead she is a victim . Just because she done somthing bad on the way or made bad choices doesnt make her any less a victim.

For instance sombody who drives badly by speeding or bad practice if they die in a road crash they are still called a victim .

Dont take away from the fact that this was a young life tragically lost to the world of crime and drugs

She lied about the fact that she was still using, I just don't buy into this idea that she was the innocent girl from the good middle class home who was lead astray by the big bad drug dealer and had no idea what she was doing.

2 other drug users died that week as well, they barely made the news and there was certainly no talk about their inquests, reason being they weren't rich or "famous".

Well for the majority of folk they have been pressured into somthing in their adult life . Could have been getting or changing a car or kitchen , boss and team pressireing ya into staying late in work .

Not all peer pressure is of an illegal type and doesnt have to be a big or life changing decision , but it happens

Sorry for the ivory tower remark i was out of order.

Being pressured into buying a car or a kitchen is different. You can always change your mind and it's not illegal. Once you smoke a joint, pop a pill or snort a line then you have broken the law and also taken the first step on a very nasty road towards addiction. Not everyone will become an addict and not all addicts will die but as sure as **** stinks if one does die they won't get the press she did.

Exactly she was then used by the media as their poster boy against drugs and the tragady of drug use etc....

Dont know the ins or out of her drug use claims or lifstyle , her death and the likes of amy winehouse hit the head linds cause they are already in them . They are somtimes in the headlines for the wrong reasons , but when they died the media used them

Personally I think people who knowingly take illegal drugs should be left last to be treated . The genuinely ill deserve to be treated first .

I suppose smokers and drinkers should be denied treatment too?

Use them by all means but do not make them out to be poor victims let kids know that drugs kill and it don't matter who you are or where your'e from drugs know no social boundries and will kill you. Scare the **** out of em so they are afraid to take a paracetomol without parents permission.

Haha nah your fine , pressure is pressure , it doesnt matter if what the outcome is leagal or not . The result is still the same having to live with the cosiquences . If ya are pressured into having 1 line and have no ill effects you can live to regret it , if your pressured into buying a new car or kitchen and recieve it you stuck with s loan for 5 years but at least ya have your health and somthing to show for it . Depends on how deep you get in .

Again kids dont do drugs they are bad for ya

Yes your'e right they should be lower on the list. There is a reason drinkers don't get new livers and smokers don't get new lungs they don't even make the transplant lists. Alcohol and cigarettes should be taxed to the hilt. Healthcare costs 3 billion a year? Lets make 2.5 billion of that on alcohol and cig tax.

Use them yes . But i never said they where the poor victim . There is only a slight amount of pity that she was young and if not for the drugs would potentially have her life ahead of her . I did say they where victims because they where ,

Abit of empathy in the world please people

In all fairness, most of us probably had never even heard of her til she died. And had she been some ordinary Josephine Soap and not a model, we still wouldn't have heard of her.

The girl was silly, naive and living in a fickle world where associating with the likes of Kieron Ducie was some sort of status because he had money, access to drugs and hung around with pretty girls who wanted to get their names out there. Not saying that those times are over but it was certainly typical Celtic Tiger behaviour.

It's not a world I would ever want to live in, I don't care how pretty she was. The girl is dead and not amount of arguing whether she was a victim or not is going to bring her back. The media just need to let it go now, or else run the risk of making her out to be some sort of martyr. Plenty of other young people in every corner of Ireland die from drug abuse and don't get half the publicity Katy French does, to the point of almost glamourising her death. It smacks of Barry Egan/Sunday Independent rag journalism. It's done. Let the girl rest.

did she used to party with that Alison canavan girl? the sad fact is this girl was a junkie. having spent my twenties around coke and people in its orbit I can tell you she would have gone to the ends of the earth to get her stuff.blaming fame or anything else is a non starter.she f***ed up and paid the ultimate price. life moves on.

We are all responsible for our own decisions. It shouldn't stop you having some empathy for someone who makes a bad choice. It would appear some people never put a foot wrong.

I'm not going to go into the coffee, alcohol are drugs speech as it is as common as calling out a Fianna Failr here on boards but at the same time step down from the alter with that nonsense. 'she danced with the devil and stood on his foot!!!!'

She was a bit well known, that's why there was more media coverage of her - mostly just by the Independent Newspaper group, because glorifying models is what it does.
Anonymous people don't get column inches and she wasn't completely anonymous. I'm not saying it's right and I also found the fawning and viewing of her as an innocent victim to be grotesque, but it's the way it goes - it's not that shocking.

I know she made her own choice and it was stupid to use the drug to that excess, but I still hate the "No sympathy" stuff. I can't see how there can't even be just a bit of sympathy for someone who died so young, even if it was her own fault.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,650 ✭✭✭✭minidazzler

She was young impressionable and led to a point where at some stage she taught drug taking was the norm and excessive drug taking made ya the one .the girl had neither the life experience nor the right guidance to make the right decisions in her life .

Among models it tends to be the norm.

'She had no limit when it came to coke, she always wanted more'

sounds like any person who takes cocaine on a regular basis.
    dont see the headline shock

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 630 ✭✭✭liamygunner29

its probably also worth considering that cocaine is a hell of a drug.

This is a nothing story that has dragged on for six fckin years.

I hate the media in this country.

I never had any sympathy, but at this stage I'm starting to hate the woman....and I didn't even know who she was when she died..
