No not going. Should be a great day for all.

In fairness anybody who got a ticket probably deserves it. Hope Celtic get their act together by then.

I just had it on as background noise but it looked like Rogic had a good first half and good to see Scott Brown get an hour under his belt.

no real creativity.. some good passing at times a lot of possession seemed to be in our own half.. some silly mistakes but an improvement on the last game

“There has been interest in Gary from two clubs, QPR and Norwich, and I think that will rumble on for a week or so.

“Can I convince him to stay? It’s a difficult one. He’s not featured much for us this pre-season. He’s got a bit of catching up to do and I don’t know where his mind is at the minute.

“I’ve not had the chance to speak to him yet but it could be difficult for us to keep him.

“Has he played his last game for Celtic? Never say never, but it’s looking more and more that way just now.”

Looks like he'll be flogged to QPR as Norwich are apparently in the process of signing Quagliarella. That would be a serious setback for Hooper tbh

At the moment, I'd be inclined to agree.

It's got trouble written all over it unfortunately tbh. Time of year, the continuing trouble not far from the ground, good weather and people out looking for hassle. I just hope nobody gets hurt and that people keep their heads. Hope the fans just stick together and avoid the blackspots. It'll be a great occasion, would hate to see it spoiled by violence.

Agreed Paul the problem as you say the time of year and the trouble happening just now make it a very dodgy situation I would hate to see anyone being hurt because some morons don't know how to behave

    http://sport.stv.tv/football/clubs/celtic/233014-celtic-name-full-strength-19-man-squad-for-cliftonville-qualifiers/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
Celtic have named a full-strength squad for their UEFA Champions League second qualifying round ties with Cliftonville.

Although Neil Lennon has fitness doubts over a number of players, every senior member of his first team squad has been included in a 19-man pool for the two games.

Gary Hooper, who is subject to a bid from Queen's Park Rangers, is eligible to feature in either tie if he remains a Celtic player but has been left out of the first leg with an injury.

Summer signings Virgil van Dijk and Amido Balde have been selected.

Celtic have left one vacant slot for the round, leaving them with the opportunity to register one further player up until 11pm on Tuesday night.

Just three players defined as "locally trained" are in the Scottish champions' squad for the game, meaning the club have had to leave five spaces unoccupied.

UEFA regulations state eight places are reserved for "locally trained" players, with a minimum of four having to be developed by the club.

Three of those spots could be filled in future rounds by any future signing recruited who qualifies as an "association trained" player, having played for a Scottish club between the ages of 15 and 21 for three seasons, or a "club trained" player, who was with Celtic under the same conditions.

Celtic will be able to make unlimited changes to their squad before any third qualifying round or play-off round tie.

Players born on or after January 1, 1992 who have been with Celtic for two years or more do not have to be registered in the main squad.

That means players such as Tony Watt, Jackson Irvine and Bahrudin Atajic are eligible if named on "List B" by Celtic prior to either leg.

    Fraser Forster
    Lukasz Zaluska
    Adam Matthews
    Emilio Izaguirre
    Efe Ambrose
    Virgil van Dijk
    Kelvin Wilson
    Charlie Mulgrew
    Mikael Lustig
    Scott Brown
    Kris Commons
    Joe Ledley
    Tom Rogic
    Beram Kayal
    Georgios Samaras
    Anthony Stokes
    Amido Balde
    James Forrest
    Gary Hooper

With Hoopers situation coming to a conclusion and the restrictions Celtic face in registering players, its baffling that a move for Johnny Russell didnt happen. Seems we are fairly limited in who we can buy that can be registered for European Competition but I hope the club puts more faith in our youth prospects and develop them even if it weakens the squad in the short term.

Celtic never should have agreed to the fixture swap, the week may have made the difference between trouble and a peaceful day out. Lets face it if anything does kick off we get to hear how all Celtic fans are and ever will be is degenerates regardeless of the circumstances.

aside from that I hope all my mates are ok up there

The situation in Belfast could rumble on for quite some time yet and if the 1st leg is close then you have the prospect of a far higher demand than now and realistically alot of ticketless Celtic fans travelling which would definitely attract trouble.

Aye. Of course he has. Injured pride perhaps.

He didnt take part in preseason, did he? (cant remember)

Poor auld Gary, could have earned alot more money by signing that contract extension and he could have waited and possibly play another season in the UCL before going to the EPL, Wanyama style. Instead, he's getting punted back to the Championship, back to the same level he left 3 years ago. No physio in the world can fix that dent in his ego. I bet he's cursing the day he changed agent.

Submitted, yes, but nothing about accepting etc

In the video in that link I posted, Mjallby is asked that and he says he doesnt know. Told them to ask Lawwell or Lennon for the specifics, all he knows that a bid has been submitted. He says he hasnt talked to Hooper either as he's not travelling with the squad because of injury.

I've really grown to dislike Kenny Shiels, such a bitter man. Always has to get a dig in.

Kenny Shiels: Neil Lennon deserves a knighthood for £12.5million Victor Wanyama deal

    16 Jul 2013 07:55
THE former Kilmarnock boss reckons the Celtic manager has got a great deal for a player who 'doesn't keep the ball very well'.

Shiels: "We dropped off Wanyama and most of the time we got the ball back from him"Shiels: "We dropped off Wanyama and most of the time we got the ball back from him"
    Alasdair Macleod/Daily Record
KENNY SHIELS reckons Celtic boss Neil Lennon deserves a knighthood for selling Victor Wanyama to Southampton for £12.5million.

The Kenyan arrived at Parkhead from Beerschot for just £900,000 in 2011 with his switch last week to the Premiership side fetching a record fee for a Scots club.

Former Kilmarnock gaffer Shiels believes his fellow Northern Irishman deserves a summons to Buckingham Palace for his role in the deal.

And he revealed the eye-watering fee impressed him even more because he’s no fan of the 22-year-old.

Shiels said: “Any time we played Celtic I would tell our lads not to worry about him being on the ball because he doesn’t keep it very well.

“Lennon deserves a knighthood for getting someone to pay £12.5m.

“We found that when you gave Wanyama space he didn’t have the natural instincts to know what to do with the ball.

“We’d press players like Joe Ledley and Charlie Mulgrew but we dropped off Wanyama and most of the time we got the ball back from him.

“Celtic have made a big financial gain from his transfer but I don’t think that they’ve been weakened in a footballing sense.”

Lennon’s team have just completed a dismal tour of Germany, losing all four games and conceding 12 goals, but Shiels argues that will help them when they face Cliftonville at Solitude in Belfast tomorrow night.

He said: “Those result will help Celtic. The defeats will have sharpened them up mentally.

“Neil’s players had a lot of success last season, winning the title and the Scottish Cup and reaching the last 16 of the Champions League.

“But these results will have brought them back down to earth and as a result I don’t imagine there will be any complacency in the ranks when they face Cliftonville.

“Cliftonville will treat the home leg like an away leg and try to counter attack with their main aim to keep the tie alive by the time they go to Parkhead.

“This isn’t a game Celtic will be looking forward to. It would be great for the game in Northern Ireland if Cliftonville could win but I expect Celtic will go through.”

The thing is, I kinda agree with him. I've criticised his distribution in games plenty of times, his vision is not great, neither is range of passing but you can be sure that Pochettino will focus on his physicality, closing down players, winning back the ball, being a monster at set pieces and disciplining him to continually move the ball quickly with short passes and move for another pass when in possession which will be an easy transition for him. Some of the stuff he got away with in the SPL will be punished by EPL teams if he doesnt stick to the strengths in his game.

But this knighthood shíte for getting £12.5m for him is disrespectful when you see the amounts bandied about for average players

Celtic manager @OfficialNeil : deal for Gary Hooper should go through "in a week or so" ; "couple of clubs" in for the striker

I'd be surprised if the scouts don't have at least a couple of players in mind, I'd expect transfers in before the window closes. Unfortunately, this could mean new players are not in time for some/all European qualifiers (assuming we get past Cliftonville etc.). It's a bummer, but that's what happens when you have to go through qualifying rounds for the CL (and when the SPL starts to early).

Must admit I am pretty nervous about tomorrows game. We clearly are not really ready for this given how early in pre-season it really is for us. Hopefully we can get a result but it's going to be tough I feel.

Ya then you have moves that end up like Tonev, except you dont hear about it in the media, and we often end up with 2nd, 3rd or 4th choices.

Not nervous about tomorrow at all, I expect a win or - at the very worst - a draw. Over the two legs I think we'll easily do it.

Very nervous about the two rounds afterwards though. It'll be a big achievement in itself to qualify for the CL groups this season. Even getting past Cliftonville, all we need is for one of the home results in qualifying round 3 or the playoffs to go wrong and that could be it for Europe, or at least for the CL. Qualifiers are a total pain in the swiss tbh.

Let's be honest - a season without Europe when there's no Rangers in the league is pretty disastrous really.
