Now i'd never suggest to anybody that they should buy one but i'd drive it. Auto, diesel, leather and test. Job done.

Car of the day(and possibly the week) there I think :)

The wheels are horrific though and would definitely have to go, Other than that it looks nice except the hole in the dash. What would have been in there originally

Totally standard I think. Just a little cuby hole.

Ahh to me it looked like there was wires hanging in the space but I think it might just be a few pens or something now that I look closer.

That Range Rover is a fantastic find! Also has the BMW 6 cylinder diesel engine. Old skool at this stage, but quite a bit of poke and indestructable. I'd have thought that car should easily fetch €2k

The engine might go on for more miles, but will the rest of the car? Personally I can't stand 'em, horrible horrible yokes...:D:)

Looks a nice well minded genuine car in the pics.

Think that interior looks nicer then the current Avensis interior (I do have a bit of an allergy to black interiors though)

Mileage might be stacking up but these cars will take it and many more, all other things being equal. Surprisingly agile for a 1.4 litre car with that size a body. I think its got the tasty VTI alloys too as far as I can see.

About 9 months NCT left on it. There are surely worse ways to spend €875.

I know you don't like them but you have to admit that it's in nice condition for that year and milage. even the drivers seat isn't badly worn. Sure it's not an exciting car but it would do everything that you need it to do just fine for almost nothing :)

It will fetch that 2 k in November snow, plus the fact seller says tax out from June shows they're consiensious about their motor, a good one I'd say.

If you wanted something to probably go from A-B then it's grand, but... If like myself you value, style, nice interior, generally nice driving dynamics or just a nice car in general then I'd look elsewhere. I'd imagine it's reliable but I have heard they're hard to work on.

    Sorry..it ain't no Levin! :D

Yeah but you've never driven one, maybe you've been in a few Avensis taxis,

but a one owner high mileage one of them went through my hands a while ago , and I could easily live with it, and not just for reliability.

Dad had a 2.0 petrol one in 2001 for three years. Shockingly sh1t car, eventually traded it in for the 166 in 2004. ;)

Interestingly enough he got the Avensis after having had a Toyota Carina for 9 years - which was a red 1992 liftback 2.0 if anyone spots it around - and it was a fantastic car, all company cars but kept it that long because it was so good.

    The 2001 was crap. :)

Don't get me wrong I don't really like the Avensis but they are a very sensible Bangernomics buy.

Now I wonder if a 4A-GE is a straight bolt into the Avensis :P:D

Yeah but it was marginally quicker to 60 and a whole lot more economical than a 2.0 166, plus perhaps more reliable  so how was it crap !

Back on topic an Avensis Is pure bangernomics, buy it,drive it,do nothing to it sell it on for the same money.

If you are only going by what you hear and not actual experience then it's not worth saying anything imo. Those old avensis are one of the easiest and nicest cars to work on. everything is well laid out in them and everything is well designed.

    Price a bit strong perhaps

    But it has potential imo.

NCT until 10/14 - so its only being tested in the last few weeks

these have a1 reliability, however they have a tendency to rust badly underneath and on the sills. If it's relatively rust free in these areas it would make good bangernomics. I doubt that it is rust free at this stage though.

It is from a dealer, so that implies a full 3 month warranty (good of sales act)

The early NCT is generally a good sign in my book too

Ever service one? Ever get 3rd degree burns as you try bend your hand in 6 different ways to get at the oil filter up beside the exhaust manifold? Ever change a clutch in one? Ever have to drop the subframe to get the clearance for the box?

It was painfully slow. :) Check out in gear times too, far more important.

It was feck all economical as well, only ended up being marginally more economical than the 166, I know this because I have these figures to hand and it was what my Dad was concerned about changing. He had a few problems with his too, rot under the back seats and gearbox trouble. Engine burned more oil than the 166 too btw. ;)

A quick gander at your posting history shows you comment on

    Accord Diesels
    Toyotas - petrol and diesel
    Hyundai i30 previous model
VW Mk 4 Golf petrol and the Polo
    Honda Civics

These are only a few, I'm going to assume you have all first hand experience of these cars is it?

Yes I actually have first hand experience on all of those cars. I didn't just ''hear'' things like a certain car is ''hard to work on'' and assume it's ''crap'' because of it. If this is the best reply you can come up with by having to sift through my posting history I suggest you give up now.

ahhhh, LESS OF THE HANDBAGS SWINGING LADS.........and more bang'ers! (this thread has gone to the dogs with all the chit chat, waffle and bollox)

I saw this and thought, WAYYYYYYYYY overpriced, but then he's just put the €951 into 1 years tax on her,7 seater, lots of NCT and a new T.Belt, and good tyres - so if got a bit cheaper (a good bit), it'd work out well .....as it looks like a good clean well minded example of these.....also make a cool day/surf wagon/day camper, the back seats turn into a double bed......
