Anything with "New and Improved Flavour"

"New and Improved flavour" means they found cheaper ingredients and tried their best to match the taste but couldn't get it exactly right.

The idea is that if you tell people that the change is better they will believe it.

    ruined so they are

I'm eating a pack as I was reading this, and think they still taste the same.

Gawd, yes. And they're too heavily weighted towards the caramel/toffee spectrum now, presumable because it's cheaper. Bring back coffee creams and mini Bournvilles! :(

If I remember correctly, last year they dressed the Caramel Keg up as a yellow toffee the dirty hoors...

And there were about 5 blue toffees in my whole tin.. I'm boycotting Roses this year.. Quality Streets all the way..

At least you know where you stand with those badboys.

I think so too... if anything they've got even saltier and vinegarier (although giving up smoking may have had something to do with that, I couldn't tolerate Tayto cheese and onion crisps for years after my taste buds came back to life :D)

Emerald chocolates would be my vote.... they used to be my favourites. I bought a packet recently, and they just tasted vaguely plasticky. Very disappointing.

I was always a cheerleader for Quality Street, but nobody would listen! At least they offer variety.

Remember Sour Cream and Onion Pringles had the bits of green on them and far more 'dusting'. You'd destroy your fingers.

    MMMMMMmmmmm

Swiss Roll in the 1980's was delicious - but tastes just terrible in 2013. Maybe I am getting old?

almost all confectionary is bland nowadays with any even mildly offensive additives removed, and are all starting to taste the same.

Communion wafer, since they changed the main ingredient to 'I can't believe it's not Christ' it just doesn't taste the same. :(

Saw the thread and came on to say tomatoes. It only took 2 replies, so it must be true

Me too, have not kept tomatoes in the fridge for Years, they have some taste if you eat them at room temperature! Was on hols in US in 2006 and discovered their tomatoes....Heaven! Despite the veritable World Menu that was available to me, my fav was...a tomato sandwich!

Curly Wurly's too....a shadow of their former selves!

Oh my goodness, I haven't heard of Football Special in years and years!!! I remember it well from when we were kids - was guaranteed to put you right into orbit - liquid sugar! We found it about ten years ago in a local pub in the very north west of Donegal - but even they've stopped stocking it of late

Skips. They've gone horrible since they took out all the artificial colours and flavours.

Crème eggs, well not the taste but I think they have gotten smaller over the years. Someone agree with me to prove I'm not going mad.

There's a couple of recurring themes in this thread...

    1. Stuff is getting smaller (instead of staying the same size and getting dearer)
    2. Artifical stuff/chemicals/flavour enhancers were good (in small doses, obviously)

Are these good or bad things

Noticed on a 6 pack of tomatoes I got from Aldi, that it actually advises not to refrigerate them, but to keep them at room temperature to allow them to ripen.

It does help a bit by not chilling them, though maybe if I didn't buy the Super6 ones but got dearer ones on the vine or something...

Funny I see the Brunch mentioned as I had one for the first time in years yesterday and was quite disappointed by the lack of crumby bits. Seemed a bit smaller too, but more annoyed by the sparse coloured crumbs on it.

They've always been pear flavour, it's why I don't like them.
