I suppose it's a bit like posters here with thousands of posts looking down on the new guys and dismissing their opinions.

I supported the initial abolition proposal however it has emerged from Prof. John Crown that any money that is going to be saved as a result is just going to be used for committees in the Dail to check legislation. Those who will be on these committees will be appointed by the taoiseach therefore negating democracy.

I am now ambivalent toward these proposals.

The Senate was never democratic, so losing nothing on that front.

It won't always be FG in power y'know. Are you sure you'd like to see the Seanad gone completely rather than well reformed? What about when FF or SF get into office, and have an over-reaching control of how the legislature operates.. with committees personally appointed by the likes of Michéal Martin or Grizzly Adams?!

I bet my bottom dollar that many of those who appear to be in favour of this move would soon change their tune if it was another party instigating it.

I knew a girl who could make grunt noises through her fanny, with some elocution lessons that could've been an impressive feat.

DN is witty but also obnoxious. It hardly supports his argument to keep the Seanad if what it's used for is to publicise such language.

I assume it's because this may be his last chance to stand-up as forcefully as possible against Government proposals given the fact he might, despite his optimism, be walking down the warpath and up the footsteps of death's door.

When do we get to abolish the government?

Norris has gone mad. I think there's a sense of relief that he wasn't elected president.

Why is the word fanny starred out?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,973 ✭✭✭19543261

It can mean vagina and vaginas are extremely offensive.

I would be more in favour of reform.

If the referendum to abolish the Seanad is defeated I speculate that the peoples verdict will be used as a means to put any meaningful reform on the long finger.Over how long a period of time have we heard empty talk about proposals to reform the Seanad?

If we had more politicians like David who actually stand up for people and what they believe in, we wouldn't be in this mess.

I'm sure if it were any other politician who said it, this thread would be overrun with people calling him an ass for those comments.

It seems worse than "lapgate" a consensual sitting on laps rather than a mysogonistic rant referencing the vagina.

But he's left wing so grand.

A damn sight more that a lot of the folks that post around these parts, I reckon.

He has terminal liver cancer. There's a good chance that he's either in a lot of pain or on a lot of medication. He was on Miriam O'Callaghan's show last week and some of his language was... out of character. I think people should cut him some slack.

in fairness he has a long political career behind him and has spent many a long day and night in the same room as some of our ministers and TDs.

So on that basis alone, I'd say possibly more than any leading gynaecologist on the island.

Is it ok to refer to anyone as an aids-riddled arse bandit with pedophile tendancies?
