The battery in my Mum's Audi A4 1.8 Diesel Cabriolet (UK Import) is completely dead. Need to get a new battery today. Does any one know roughly how much I should be paying. Also, there is a wire going into the battery on the right hand side towards the top. I can't seem to get it out. Does it just pull out?

That's possibly the vent pipe. It should pop out to the side.

That car is not a 1.8 diesel either: it's either 1.9 or 2.0. A battery for it will be the guts of €100 IIRC (it's a big battery).

Hmm I better have a look at it now. Mum isn't the most car savvi but is adamant its a 1.8.

Not a 1.8 for sure. I got a battery for my a4 a few months ago for €86. To change the battery you Will need a ratchet with a long extension to loosen the bracket, think it's a 10 or 12mm bolt from what I remember could be wrong. It's not the easiest place to lift out a heavy battery had to kneel on the engine to lift mine out.
