    Grange Castle, 43pts off 18. 19 front, 24 back.

Lost 2 balls off the tee on the front and scrambled for 2 double bogeys. 3 birdies on the back 9 and tarnished it by getting a 5 on a short par 3!

Played a lot of 3 irons from the tee because my driver was erratic, made a massive difference. Putting was solid for a change. Delighted!

Played in a 3 ball scramble yesterday evening in Glasson, Athlone - team of 3 event and my first game since Mitchelstown!!
Was only over 12 holes and we finished 2 under.

Played fantastic for the first 6 holes until i tweaked something in my right arm, couldn't hit anything with any power after that. Its still sore now as well.

Its true about the ball flying in the fine weather, I hit two drives over 300m!! (i also hit a drive into a ditch on the right on the 9th!) Short game was good but rusty but my putter was on fire. Holed everything from within 10 foot and sunk 2 across the green putts on the 3rd and 5th par 3's which i was well happy with.
Was mental hot out there though.

83 gross 73 nett of 10 today in Druids heath.

Gutted I would have come in a par 71 nett but I 3 putted 18.

Short game was good today, pitching and chipping ok. Driving good but irons and putting were a bit poor.

Happy though as it was the medal off the whites. But saying that nett 63/66 took it I think so the conditions were good

For me a decent 97, but a record equalling 5 sandpits in a row in 5 continuous holes, no comment.

Had a decent 38pts today,(82 strokes) happy enough was first day playing off 13 so losing the shot didn't effect me much. Don't think will win anything today tho will be some low scores. Easily left 3 pts on the greens, 34 putts which is above my average.

42 points (86 strokes) yesterday in Captain's Qualifier at Skerries GC.

Generally happy to have qualified for final day which is limited to best 100 scores from over 300 golfers. :)

Still, left a lot of shots on the course but looking forward to Captain's Final Day next Saturday which will be strokes.

    Roll on next weekend.

Is it a bit unusual that the qualifier is stableford and actual competition stroke? I thought they would have to be the same?

Game of two halves today in the Medal. Hit the 1st 7 Greens in Regulation to be Level Par after 7. 2 Birds and 2 three putt Bogeys. Bogeyed 8&9 to turn +2. Drove Fairway bunker into wind on 10th which was unexpected. Somehow i hit an 8i straight right out of the bunker, OB! Ended up with a 7. Another treble on the 11th after I lost another one off the tee this time. So went from +2 after 9 to +8 after 11. Dropped 8 shots in 4 holes. Handicap shot then and interest levels went. The slow play of my group hadn't bothered me till the 8th but of course once the wheels started comin off it got in on me. What is it about high handicap golfers and a refusal to NR??? Some lad was getting 8s 9s and 10s and still playing like he was on Captains Sunday taking forever, walking 20 feet other side of the flag to line up his putts. Drove me wrong.

Stockdam mentioned it in another post but I think I need to play with better golfers for a bit. Nothing against high handicappers but this refusal to NR in medals is frankly bizarre. Doest matter if you finish with 112 your still nowhere.

    Yes it is.

I'm not sure why to be honest. If I find out the reason I'll be sure to post it up here.

As it is the first time I have entered the Captain's prize I don't know what was done in previous years.

That's a very encouraging score on your first time out at 13. You've obviously got room to get down even further before the end of the summer.

When your putter gets hot again you could lose another couple of strokes. :)

Club Championship today. Two rounds, 84, 85, didn't hit a good iron all day. Driver was ok. Putted ok but didn't make a single thing.

    Round 1
    84
    5/13 Fairways
    8/18 Greens
    37 Putts

    7 Pars
    8 Bogeys
    3 Doubles

    Round 2
    85
    7/13 Fairways
    7/18 Greens
    35 Putts

    1 Birdie
    6 Pars
    7 Bogeys
    3 Doubles
    1 Triple

Depressing stuff. Don't know whether to play tomorrow and get it out of my system or give the game a break for a week.

Stuart Grehan has won the last 3 Club Championships and equaled the course record this morning with a 6 under par 64, which included 1 ball OB and a 3 putt. Don't know yet how he got on in the 2nd round but he had an 8 shot lead so I'm sure he's got it in the bag.

Playing with better golfers generally forces you to concentrate more to try not to be embarrassed. It's also nice to see how a good golfer gets around the course; sometimes they aren't any better than you are until the final 50 yards. The pace and balance of their swing is lovely to watch.

Why on earth should high handicappers NR because they have a high score??

Ok let me answer that question with another question because I'm not sure I understand the question fully. Why on earth should or would someone hit 4 balls in a row off the tee on a Sunday morning when their group has lost 1.5 holes on the group in front, their handicap has been shot by 10 strokes already on the 12th & they just refuse to pick up and move on. It's perhaps very unfair of me to label this act a high handicapper act but in my experience, only high handicap golfers tend to have the "never NR" mentality.

IMO players should not be NRigng to speed up the pace of play - only when injury etc prevents them from completeing their round. If they can't keep up thejn they should be letting following groups through but this is a different issue. Off topic so will leave it there....

I hear what you're saying but it's inconsiderate (in my opinion) to spend so long looking for balls, gathering provo's, hitting provo's etc. when your nett score (irrelevant of your handicap) is gone beyond salvageable. You're out of the competition, by all means keep plugging away but if you've lost 2 into the ditch, have a quick root yourself, move on and have some consideration others in your group who may still have a score going. That's how I see it and that's how I do it but maybe that's just me.

agree. There is a point in a strokes competition when you have to say enough is enough as a player and take your playing partners into consideration.

A 22 handicp took 134 in our capts last year.... reloaded 4 times on 17th par 3 to take a 13...... guy with him lost out qualifying by 1 as his head melted 3 holes earlier..... people should never n/r???? please

    Disagree.
I'm all for being considerate, but with what you're saying, a lad might not chip or have a putt till the 3rd or 4th, and he won't have had any sort of feel on it when he does have a chance to score. Just keep the play moving. People are going on like there are only 2 options, pick up or fall way behind.
