Positive things about life in Ireland

Hello all, As an emigrant living far from home, I follow the news in Ireland closely and between the negatives such as the carry on of the current, god awful ,self serving government, anglo tapes, increase in cost of living, its no wonder we drink the foreheads off ourselves. I just was trying to pick out the positive things the country has to offer.

For me it would be the landscape for activities such as surfing and perhaps hiking. Also us Irish people are generally warm and engaging to be around. The food I love too especially traditional dishes, bacon and cabbage etc. The pubs are great.

Can anyone add to the above?

Somewhat related to the thread. Some one started a facebook page for pointing out positive news about the country. It's nice to see a bit of positivity amongst some of the doom and gloom.

Landscape really is a big one. Especially when we have the sun shining like we do currently. Some of the scenery is just jaw dropping and you don't have to look very hard for it either.

As far as I'm concerned Irish people are unique in that we have a "ahh well look sure it'll be grand **** it" attitude about us. Most Irish people are pretty sound too. I know there are obviously some that are complete bastards but for the most part the Irish are nice people.

I think the most positive thing about Ireland is the rest of the world doesn't have to watch RTE.

Living in a country where being a member of the travelling community gives you immunity. That's one positive.Living in a country where the people running* the country don't give two f uks about the ordinary paye worker.that's two positives.

History is only something I'm discovering now. So much of it escapes us because its spoken and not written. Covered up almost.

Talking to people over two years has opened my eyes.

Irish history isn't anything to be proud of . We fight for our independence and then give it away . The county is broke because the government are idiots the real people running the country are the civil servants . Tds are too busy being interested in LOCAL politics . This is why Ireland is so far behind . Also the Irish language is part of the history but is badly enforced .

I would say one advantage of living in Ireland is that it is safer . There are less killings and shootings . But that's all relative to gun laws and population size . Never the less its definitely a bonus .

Well I think that we have beautiful countryside and most of the population here is friendly.
I also feel that Ireland is a safe enough country to live in we never had a school shooting or a serial killer that killed masses of people.
I also like the food IMO I think that our Vegetables and meat are of a very high standard.
As for our weather it will never be perfect but at least we never had a really bad natural disaster.

    Great literary heritage.
    No deadly poisonous animals.
Not much in the way of tornadoes and hurricanes.
    Good pubs.
    Good sense of humour.
    Not former colonists.

    Folklore and Banshees.
    Great stout.
    Great lakes rivers and mountains.
    Clean air.

As long as you have reasonable good dress sense and a bit of money you can break the law with pretty much impunity.

It's been said - but the scenery - Ireland is just so stunning. When the sun shines I wouldn't want to be anywhere else in the world.

The people though are what make this place amazing, you can have chats with anyone, just talk to people and they will always talk back.

Despite all the attempts of the naysayers to run down the country and the people at every oppurtunity (just look at half of the previous posts), this wee island of ours is not that bad at all.

Yes, it could be better. It could also be a hell of a lot worse.

nice supermarkets, good TV (including UK TV), a mild climate, good scenery, not feeling like a foreigner. These are some of the better things about living here.

We get off pretty lightly in terms of natural disasters

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test
