I'm hoping for 4.7. I'm getting a dark rock pro 2 which is a solid air cooler.

If you wouldnt mind i'd really like to know where the chip was made and what it OC'd to when you get around to it

What do you mean where was it made? Sure, I'll let you know how I get on with overclocking.

Unless you get very lucky or plan to delid/use high vcore i dont see that happening, sorry :(
    Hopefully i'm wrong.

    I've a slightly below average 4670k and @ 4.6 it needs 1.35v.
That hits 88c with custom water cooling

I've said it before about haswell that they are so varied with overclocking results.
    I've seen some only doing 4.2 @ 1.4v!!
Only seen a small few running @ 4.7 without dangerous volts of 1.45v+

Fingers crossed with the silicone lottery ;)

    What mobo did you order?
If you need any help with the clocking just ask.

The chip will have the Place of manufacture on the top (malaysia, Costa Rica, etc) and im trying to see which plant makes the better chips :)

Z87x-d3h. Haswell has a lot of varied overclocking settings, so I bet if you are just modifying the vcore that you have more headroom. Also using AVX instructions (which can be disable in Win7, not 8 though) can add a lot of instability and/or voltage. A friend of mine has his at 4.7 with lower maximums with air cooling that will be ever so slightly inferior to my own setup. He is at 4.7 at something like 1.32v or something.

Costa rica seems to be better than malaysia from what i've read.
There doesn't seem to be as many of them floating around though so maybe to early to till if actually better.

Ya Costa Rica is winning from what ive seen since Sandy but im trying to get a bigger sample size

There are alot more things that need changing than just vcore when going for a higher clock.
Not sure if the GBT mobos have adaptive volts on them but if you disable that during stress testing you dont have to worry about AVX making your vcore jump alot.

Your friend has a very good chip imo the lucky fecker :P

Yep that's what I was saying.

Haha. Yeah he did well I'd say. I got this on the Intel Discount Programme, so I'm thinking its more likely to be on one extreme or the other (as oppose to being average) - so either a very good overclocker, or quite a poor one haha.

I'm pretty sure it has adaptive voltage.

I was wondering if Intel binned them for discount program or not.Yours will hopefully be binned :D

I don't see why they would specifically for the programme - but I can envisage them being engineering samples or something to that effect, which in essence makes them binned - I hope. Haha. Fingers crossed. As long as I have equal or better single threaded performance vs my 3570k (4.6ghz) I'll be happy, as it was a free upgrade for me taking into account sale of my current mobo/CPU (plus ill have the benefit if HT, etc ;) ).

Prodigy. PSU (connectors) too long. Not a happy panda at the moment.
I think I cried a little while pushing my spanking new ~€170 ax750 into my ~€60 prodigy. It's an over looked design flaw that could have been easily remedied.

The ax1200 powers the nearly passive server.

I've the AX750 in the prodigy, and I've heard the psu come on for the first time ever, just this week.

Dont really see it as a design flaw, some sacrifices had to be made I guess and there are plenty of PSU's that "fit".

There is definitely a gap in the market for a short modular PSU.

The Silverstone Strider 550W Gold is popular amongst those with well endowed wallets, but theres really nothing for the masses.

Once you go 700W+ you're options narrow considerably.

PC has been getting really hot lately, CPU and motherboard are reaching 90 whilst playing Arma.
I'm assuming its the hot weather as before this week it averaged no more than 60, but just to be safe suggestions for a decent 1155 CPU fan as I'm still on stock intel fans and I've been meaning to get a better one for a while anyway.

Coolermaster silent pro 700 fits perfectly in it.

Unless your running a dual GPU card do you arguably dont need any more wattage ?

If your migrating a PSU you already own I can see why it would be frustrating though.

Due for release in the spring 2014, looks fairly good.

Indeed. The Dremel I have coming will sort out any design flaws pretty quick though. :P

I also might stick in a few extra rad mount points to allow for 2x240 rads in the thing. That, and some sound proofing, and the Prodigy is done.

From there, it's saving for a ~500GB SSD, Apogee Drive II, and SFX PSU (the latter two can be financed with existing parts) and I can then move to an FT03/NCase/something similar. I could actually pick up an SFX PSU now - the ST45SF-G is actually cheaper than my Enermax unit - but it's too damn loud, even with the slower spinning V2 model Silverstone recently introduced. Going to wait for quieter things, I think.
