I'm having a bit of a debate with my boss about comparing the effectiveness when ripping rock.
He reckons a 45T (such as a CAT 345) with a single ripping tooth would have the same rock ripping ability as a CAT D9 with a single shank ripper.

I don't think it would, even though they have very similar weights.

    What do you think?

Dozer without a doubt, it putting the power down to the ground where as the 360 is using hydraulics for it power.

    +1 on the dozer.

If you're ripping a large area of rock and not in need of making a specific pattern or a specific hole then the dozer will be 5x faster.

A ripper tooth on the 360 just won't get the same power - while it may have similar weight, the boom and dipper absorb a lot of power from the machine.
