There is nothing better than listening to rock ballads on a midweek night whilst drinking alone in your boxer shorts.
Prefer this kind of music myself for that kind of occasion

Not if you sing it through your nose. :D

Wanna listen to Electric by The Cult now.

This kind of raw energy is something that is seriously amiss in pop music / radio these days. I dare say the world would be a much better place with it.

What about this one. A classic. I was in love with David Coverdale back in the day. :o

You may have proven you own point about the song putting years on you - it was a 1990s song not 1980s. But I wouldn't disgree with you on the song.

We'll include the 70s for you older folks too then.:p

    Here's the grandaddy of all rock ballads;

Awesome Geetar solo work at the end

Think that was the last concert before the crash too.

I've no idea to be honest with you - I'd have to check wiki for that info.

    Still. Awesome song.

As far from Poodle Rock as you could possibly get.

The fact their latter day audience are Nascar loving good ole' boys does them a disservice imo.

Anything post plane-crash is unlistenable though.

It's like you nicked the playlist off my mp3 player (also known as my phone, which is useless as far as YouTube is concerned, half the videos here - "not available on mobile"), but how did we get six pages in and forget about the epitome of rock ballads -

    Since we're including 70's ballads.....

Someone already said Lynyrd Skynyrd's Free Bird

The Backwards Man stole my REO Take it on the Run. Classic.

This one's a bit up tempo maybe for a ballad, but catchy as f*ck

This defines the 80s (even if I was still crawling at the time)

And a bit of Boston for an encore

Say what you want about music from the 80s. It had charm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 519 ✭✭✭wuzziwig

Jim Diamond!! Forgot about him. That man always looked and sounded in severe pain when he was singing.

Hildalgo, you need to be barred from this thread for making me feel old with your crawling in the 80s comment!! :p

This thread is great. A right old blast from the past.

This is one of the best threads I have seen in ages :D can't beat the 80's power ballads :) keep them coming

This was #1 for what seemed like years when I was a kid in the 80's.

Though the production and delivery were a little overblown, like so much of the music of the time, the melody holds up remarkably well.

There is just so much great music from the 80's. I know every generation thinks the current generations music is crap, but todays stuff truly is utter crap. It always amazes me when you get one of the nostalgia programmes around Christmas, about the 80's and I've forgotten so many of the songs and bands. It's also kind of scary watching grumpy old men/women with your partner and recognising so many characteristics in each other:D

Oh I have LOADS of 70's, 80's and 90's albums on my phone, and then there's loads of internet radio stations aswel that play all the classic rock songs, like this one which was particularly poignant when I look back on it now -

After listening to that, had to perk myself up a bit with this -
