My guess at the Warrenball 10 would be

    Hibbard
    A Jones
    AW Jones
    Evans
    Lydiate
    Faletau
    Phillips
    North
    Roberts
    Halfpenny

    Other 5

    Corbisiaro
    BOD
    SOB
    Bowe
    Sexton

I'm certain Tipuric will be a straight swap for Warburton.

Crazier things have happened but it would be madness. JD played poorly the other day in attack and defence. He made a couple of glaring errors and the missed tackle for the try was really poor; that was a basic tackle where he was caught slow on his feet in the 13 channel. I've looked at it several times and he simply did not trust the man inside him. The look Bowe gives when AAC scores would kill you dead.

Probably right. It makes more sense that they don't replace two of the back three.

I wouldn't be overly concerned if he was, a bit like many others, he's offered nothing in attack,

Have to say I agree with Buer here. Davies has been by far and away worse then BOD over the two tests. BOD has been a monster in defence and you can't lay the blame for the poor attacking play at his feet IMO (not Davies either to be fair as he's out of position) No Lions players, bar George North in the first test, has offered anything in attack Rightwing. Defensively Davies has been quite frail at times.

Tbh the way I see the centres

Roberts/Tuilagi and Bod > Roberts/Tuilagi and Davies > Davies and BOD

No question about that. I'd have Tuilagi in first, then Roberts/BOD, I don't mind which.

BOD could only really be dropped for Davies.

if it happens, it would show just how biased Gatland is towards the Welsh. nobody offered anything in attack in the 2nd Test, and BOD was our best defender among the backs.

Gatland may like his own, but he's not dropping BOD for this one. not a chance.

the 10, IMO, will be, if 10 is what it will be...

    Hibbard
    AJ
    AWJ
    Tipuric
    Lydiate
    Faleteau
    Phillips
    North
    Roberts
    Halfpenny

as "cold" as we think Tipuric will be, he's as close to Warburton as there is.

IMO, they're more likely to use SOB as a sub, than they are to drop BOD or Bowe, which are the only other 2 positions where Welsh can come in.

Why are people insisting on picking 10 welsh? Did Gatland say he would do that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,041 ✭✭✭clsmooth

Of course the players can execute the game plan. They crossed the gain line 72% of the time in T1

What was the percentage in T2?

Yes, through his boards.ie account (danthefan).

I'd say these will be the ten boyos (mods edit if that phrase is deemed in any way offensive but I don't think it is).

Hibbard will come in at hooker - fair enough
    Jones - fair enough
    AWJ - fair enough
Lydiate - would go SOB myself but there you go
    Tipuric - fair enough IMO
    Faletau - fair enough IMO
Phillips - because of the fact it's a massive game I can see why Phillips would get the nod over Murray
    Roberts - fair enough
    North - fair enough
    Halfpenny - fair enough

Corbisiero, Parling, Sexton, O'Driscoll and Bowe being the tokens.

    doc 12 manu 13?

they havent played together EVER as far as i can make out

oh and on roberts coming is as most people are suggesting... lets be honest, hes been pretty poor ineffectual so far on tour and didnt exactly stand out as one of wales best during the 6N.

personally id prefer the battering ram of tuilagi running up lilos channels all day

i read it as hes saying tuilagi first... than either of bod / doc

how does that put BOD into both equations?

if im wrong in the interpretation i apologise..

He meant his first choice is Tuilagi, then Roberts. So either of them/BOD

I'd don't see anything great in Roberts either, it really shows how poor we are in midfield when this guy is seen as vital. I hope to see Tuilagi in the team, also hope to see Gray get his test, Corbo, Murray is playing v well but he has a tendency to blow try scoring chances, so even with my munster hat on, I'd go with Philips.

Well you nailed it last week DTF so I'll give your post credence. I'll be counting to 10 when the teams announced tomorrow.

This one is pure dodgy though tbh, I haven't much faith in it. Last week was a lot more solid.

    Thornley's team:

    15. Halfpenny
    14. Bowe
    13. BOD
    12. Roberts
    11. North
    10. Sexton
    09. Philips
    08. Heaslip
    07. SOB
    06. Lydiate
    05. AWJ
    04. Evans
    03. Jones
    02. Hibbard
    01. Corbisero

Bench: Youngs, Mako, Cole, Croft, Tipuric, Murray, Farrell, Cuthbert

Apart from the omission of Parling that'd be my select team as well.

You should know by now Rightwing that Gray is anathema. It's sacrilege to utter his name and axiomatic that he is unworthy of his Lions call of duty. What therefore the forum hath decreed, let no man impugn.

It's not about the forum decreeing anything, its just about common sense. His performances have been dire. Particularly that Brumbies performance, which must rank among the worst of a Lions lock in the professional era.

I am ambivalent in this matter IBF. But I wished to spare Rightwing a headache from banging his head against a brick wall. You have lead the critique against Gray, and have always elucidated your position. Others have subsequently joined the bandwagon to the point that any rational debate as to the merits or otherwise of Gray seems no longer possible. To diss Gray invites a multitude of "thanks", to mention him in a favourable light is almost viewed now as tantamount to trolling.

I'd say he'll keep O'Brien on the bench for his impact coming into the game late, and also the out and out 7 ability of Tupiric as a direct replacement for the role of Warburton, which is different to the type of role SOB brings to the pitch.

Personally I'd go with O'Brien, perhaps blue / green tinted glasses there, but overall I've a bad feeling about this game. If the Lions lose, they'll have thrown away the last two tours, I would be amazed if they got near NZ in 4 years, and may well be turning into a bit of a joke, having not won a tour in 20+ years.

They REALLY need to win this to return credibility to the Lions as a formidible touring party. The Lions could slip into the realms of Barbarians type regard - an exebition team rather than a serious team.

Thanks, but interestingly, the only place I've seen Gray criticised is here.
Case closed as far as I'm concerned.

    Richie Gray (v babas)
He appeared to cope with the conditions better than most and made a number of carries, one which almost led to a try for Hogg. Promising start after injury-disrupted season. 7

    4 Richie Gray (v Rebels)

Scotland-Richie-Gray_2953098.jpgIn a straight shoot out for a place on the Test bench with Ian Evans and Gray just edged it with an all-round display. He carried impressively, he won his six lineouts and put in an impressive shift defensive. 8

Yeh, that's the 15 I think he'll pick. Predictable as hell. I don't know what I'd do to shake it up, but it saddens me that there is nothing in there that looks inspirational.

If we are to have any chance, execution of the limited gameplan is going to have to be exceptional. I just don't see us scoring a try
