Just that loose faceplate will probably get you € 100,-

Where the **** did you get that????

I have a Famicom Micro but the faceplate is all scratched up. Wanted to get a replacement, but only ones I could find were those special edition player II ones - and they cost a small fortune.

Perhaps worth a few more bob than the paltry €50 I paid, including postage.

I think I neary bought that very one a good while back, he wanted more than E50 for it and I didn't have it:( I'm properly raging now!;)

    Finally got Terranigma, australian version.

Doesn't work on my NTSC SNES. Think I need to get it modded.

Picked up IL 2 Sturmovik yesterday for the princely sum of €12
Also got a message from the normally efficient Japan, my copy of Nights into Dreams is delayed, hope to have it next week

No it won't. The game detects if it's running 50 or 60 Hz and locks the game out if it detects the wrong frequency.

Only way past it is a frequency chip. Most Nintendo published games and late Konami games have this lock out.

Im using this adapter and I have never used it.
because I have only collected NTSC games because the
cart looks better and I get snes games cheaper most times importing.

Can I not play pal games using it ? or is it just Terranigma that
wont work because I have been planning on picking that game up
    since its a pal exclusive

Certain games won't work, Terranigma being one of them. TBH it's not a hard mod to perform anyway.

Lifting the two pins from the PPU chips is the trickiest bit, & easily 'screw-upable'. After that though it's handy

Talk to Kerbdog, he does the most excellent Snes mods I've seen, my Snes now runs the lot.

So bought a NES recently and I'm getting a flashing red light and a flickering blue screen, I'm not exactly techie sound and I've looked up what I think is the problem, but before I go opening it up and kacking myself, does this sound like I need to replace the pin connector ? Any help would be greatly appreciated !!!

Disable the lockout chip first, you just need to lift one pin off of the board.

You reckon that might be the problem ? Why would that be causing the problem ?

I'll leave it up to my good buddy Adam Koralik to explain:

Great I'll give that a shot when the kids are asleep and herself is on "wine-time" and corrie, so this also makes the console region free as well ?

Yeah but you'll still need a pin adapter of some sort.

As far as I know. The games will probably be dog slow though as they won't be PAL optimized.

Of course, good point. Getting ahead of myself, fix first, region mod later, walk before run and all that. First attempt at fixing a console myself so it's baby steps for me, I mean, it's not like I've blown up two Saturns ....... :D

The vast majority of PAL games aren't PAL optimised and run dog slow. The only NES game I've come across that's been optimised was the original Mario Bros.

It's the system not the games that dictate the speed. Which is why I went for a US NES.

Same here, I got a very good deal on it something like €40 shipped.

Technically I only blew the PSU in one Saturn and a fuse in another so... erm... hehe.

Bloke on the Assembler forums saved me there anyway by sending out a replacement.

But erh yeah is there a 60hz region mod for the EU Nes?

Nope, none that I'm aware of.

Forget these chancers, buy a famicom, get it av modded and pick up an adaptor.

Got myself a fantastic little game I was after for ages now. Umihara Kawase Shun Second Edition:

    260970.jpg

This one is a real hidden gem. It's a physics based platformer. You play a girl who has to traverse the levels using her fishing rod. She can attach it to walls and use it to swing like in Bionic Commando. The difference is that the fishing rod is very elastic and controlled by physics. It makes the game far more challenging but also if you can use the physics properly you can speed run the levels making it very replayable and there's dozens of warps hidden throughout the levels that only experts can get to.

Unfortunately it cost me quite a bit, about 65 euros including postage but tbh I was put off buying it new since it went for a similar price due to the strong yen at the time. To put it into context, I paid the same for Terranigma. I think it's worth it though.

A word of warning, the DS version is the one to go for. The original was released on the SNES and a sequel was released on the PS1. Second Edition combines the SNES and PS1 releases and came out on the PSP first but was shunned by fans because the physics of the fishing line were totally off. The original creator was drafted in for the DS version to make sure they got the fishing line physics correct.

There's a third game in the series coming to 3DS and it has been lined up for a Western release.

Here's the trailer. Graphics are bizarre but it's the gameplay that this game is known for:

Oh yeah, I've one of them too :p Isn't the sound hardware in the Famicom superior to the NES though? As in it has a few more channels, meaning you'll lose them if playing Famicom carts on an NES via adapter?

Only famicom disk system games have an extra channel they can use. The better sound most Famicom games have is due to extra chips on the cart. The western branches forbid developers using extra chips on carts so we didn't get them here. They should still work with the better sound using an adaptor.
