Use V-brake levers with mechanical disc brakes?

Having just bought my sister's Carrera Subway, I see it has a 7-sp cassette. I have 8-sp V-brake levers sitting in the shed and I'm wondering will they correctly operate the Subway's mechanical disc brakes? At first glance, cable travel looks similar...

I use a cantilever brake lever with disk brakes with out any issues.

Try it and see but it probably won't work. V-brakes require twice as much cable pull as cantilevers and I suspect disc brakes. They'll work but will be spongey as hell.

They should work.
I use the V-Brake levers I'd previously used with Avid Vee's with BB7 mechanical discs.

These particular levers are actually a combi caliper/V-brake lever. You can move the cable pull point closer to the pivot for calipers and further out for V-brakes. The cable pull for the discs looks pretty big which is why I'm thinking V-brake levers.
