I have an old iso-fix base bolted to the tractor, just in the place where an ordinary buddy seat should go. Its rough looking but solid. The actual seat clicks into the base.

COuld you post a photo darragh? I must figure out a seat for tractor too.

Had that when small. Youngest 4 now so buddy seat back in would like seat belt though. I put a seat from a Berg go cart in loader as Jcb seat was €500. Oldest lad 8 is now beginning to drive loader. I let him collect an odd bale though he usually holes it. Hope to have him loading by end of holidays. That's his goal for the summer. He will collect cows for milking on quad and will take calf feeder to calves but I have to lift it off. Really important that they learn these things young and get a respect for them. I have a limiter on the bike.

Had my 2 year old girl with me all day in the tractor. Topping and spreading fertiliser. Mother lost the rag about it. (She's from Bray) she has no idea about farming. ..... I minded the little girl for the day and had a great day with and got the head ate off me for it...... ****ing townies

married to 1 my self

on our wedding day my late father in law gave a short and witty speech

    he concluded by saying

"this couple have absolutately nothing in common, they are ging to be extremely happy to gether"

after nearly 30 haven't proved him wrong yet :)

    +1.

In fact it's the main reason it's in the back of my mind to trade in the auld 165. It's sufficient for what I need but body's in bits and it is unsafe to bring kids in. Nothing left in this year's kitty though

It would be handy enough to screw or bolt an old seat belt and holder in through the mudguard or somewhere . Or if thy are as lively as my second lad a ratchet strap might be the job !

When I was a young lad there was no problem with the parents dropping us into the grandparents at any time or for any length of time , but its not too easy now to drop them in . My mother is gone cat lazy and hates baby sitting . Do the rest of ye find parents are not as accommodating as the generation before or is it just me ?

how often do you expect them to mind them, they are your kids not theirs! when she does mind them do you pay or reward her or do you expect it done for nothing?

Are not all french farmers part time. lazy sods harly harvest the grain in July as its their month off.

All frenchmen are part time, if they were full time they'd be on strike more often.

What kind of seat did you use? I'll have to do the same with my fella soon but he wouldnt be able to sit on the passenger seat.

I used to let my lad sit on my knee when he was younger, slows you down but safer at that age

Not very often ,I know they are mine . The seven year old comes everywhere with me now and the two year old alot of the time . But the wife works two long days in the week so if I need to handle cattle in the evening ( half the cattle belong to the parents ) Id have to drop the youngest lad into the house because its too dangerous . She would have a face on her or say she had to go to the shop and tell me he doesnt want to stay with her anyhow !
I have treated her very well all along , would often leave her cash or fags and my wife would always throw in a bag of groceries when she does our shopping . I think I just have a troublesome mother to be honest

Em yes I do expect mine to mind my kids especiallywhen they give out about how dangerous it is having them on the farm theyre both in their 50's and aren't working, so well capable of minding them. They are in a better position financially than me so dont need the money a thank you should be enough

is she old, some parents are not able to cope with kids as they feel they wont be able to keep up with them, my kids more or less look after themselves now but if i was stuck my mam would look after the youngest lad, i would give her plenty of notice and would buy a voucher for somewhere for her every few months, tbh she only has him about once a month, they live next door

how would you feel being landed with kids for no reward , try and understand it from their point of view too, they too have a life you know

Jayus moy they have a life too, i used to be the same expecting mum to take kids at drop of a hat, oh pointed out that they are getting older and fit it hard to run around after kids so now i try to give a few days notice and also give them something as a thank you every now and then, p

I'll post up a picture tomorrow. Its on a MF3065 so as long as the back window is shut, my daughter has no problem with the noise. She loves when the tractor bounces around, so going over rough ground is no problem.
Muckit, my 3 year old nephew won't go in that seat any more, so I don't know how suitable it'd be for you nephew.

Yes I know that they have a life and as for a reward I spend my life helping them out when they needed it and if I had the finance to have my kids in childcare I would everyone situation is different. I wasnt being smart

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,786 ✭✭✭✭whelan1

but that is the point, you are using them as childcare, if they where not there you would have to pay someone, whether they are loaded or not i dont think its too much to show that you are grateful, but as you say every situation is different....

If you cant afford childcare family all you have my parents are rewarded in the knowledge that theyre grandkids are safe and happy.

Nope she is only 55 and if she cant mind a two year old its purely because she has no interest in him which we have noticed with her .
If I was stuck and had to drop him in at short notice she would be very frosty , in fact there are times when I would have turned around and drove a couple of miles to get my sister to mind him instead of putting up with her attitude .
We get vouchers and have sent them on two weekend breaks this year but she just expects this treatment , she never even thanked the wife for them . The father is the complete opposite thank god .
I cant wait til my two can look after themselves .

Of course they have a life , I have childcare for when both of us are working but in the evenings I might be helping with their stuff and she still would begrudge minding him . Im not a slave driver :D

when we where young, my ma had to go to the local town one evening and asked the farm student to watch us while she was gone, my sister asked him where my ma was , he said the bogey man was after taking her, my sister ran straight through the glass back door:eek: he was never asked to mind us again
