In fairness I've 3 pirellis and one ceat tyre on my car, never heard of ceat in my life but it was one of the first set of tyres i put on the car, the pirellis being the second, plenty left in it too

So when I bought my 147 about 9 months ago it came with 4 brand new tyres. Great, I thought at the time before I realised they were Wanli, which are pretty much universally recognised as unparalleled in terms of crappiness.

There was still a fair bit of tread left on them but had a bit of cash saved so had four Michelins put on today, with a four wheel laser alignment. €465 hit to the wallet but the car is transformed. Ride quality, road noise and grip markedly improved and the car just feels far more connected to the road. Tyres were €420, but given camskill would have been €365 for the same ones before fitting costs, I was pretty happy with the deal. Good to see Irish tyre retailers getting more competitive.

Love to hear of people putting quality rubber on cars. You'll probably find a fool willing to give you a few quid for the part worn Wanlis . Only if you can sell them and still have a clear conscience.

I actually did consider selling them when they were new, but fcuk it, life's too short. Fronts had worn unevenly anyway, hence the alignment. I'm lucky enough that work is busy and I had the few quid in overtime to put towards it, so rather than buy something fun I bought tyres instead. Plus I wanted to see if the 147 went bang after I got it, as lots of people suggested it would, but it's been absolutely faultless since I bought it, just check the oil level every month and that's it.

Let me guess, none of them had owned an alfa before?

nope. One of the most vocal was a 520d owning friend whose car has now developed a timing chain problem. Luckily for him it's under warranty, otherwise would have cost more to fix than my car did to buy.

The phase I hear most often would be "lovely/great car, but I wouldnt buy one"

But the same peple have no problems wanting to take my 159 for a spin;)

I know. One of the guys in work is looking at getting a Audi A4 2.0 tdi or a corolla.
Told him to look at a 159. Better spec, more fun and cheaper. Said he wouldn't drive an alfa because it'll brake down on the motorway.
Got him to take my bangernomics busso for a spin on lunch.
Never seen him smile so much!:)
Apparently she goes "like a bullet".

Don't think I've changed his mind on an A4 but I think he's reconsidering his dodgy views on then especially when he saw the mileage!:)

Yep, I'm sick of hearing it too..... :p

The usual barrage of have you owned one works and if they have and still continue with that sh*te I just ask a load of maintenance questions; ask why the money was rather spent on clothes/booze/rubbish not needed rather than the car, a disappointment to the motoring community spouting such unverified, biased and opinionated crap, gives the rest a bad name with such a lazy attitude neglecting the car etc.... That usually works the rest of the time, makes people realise how silly they sound ;)

He is probably thinking "if the Alfa is this much fun then the Audi is going to blow my mind." Just the way people are.

No water in it at all. I think you seeing things dgt :-D
the brown is fluid the rest is the empty part of the bottle

But the fluid and water and miscible. The reason for thinking there is water in it AFAIK is that it is brown in colour, this is caused by rust in the fluid. The pipes will only rust if there is water present as it will not oxidize with the brake fluid.

This reminds of the last time the focus was in the garage. The mechanic tested the strength of the coolant as he thought the colour looked a bit light. Turned out to be pure water  then he takes out the water pump and it was starting to rust the water and the bearing was almost ruined. He said it would have only have been a matter of time before it seized completely  . That was an expensive week.

As luck would have it I stumbled across an Italian car meet up and race day at a race track in Holland today. I forgot my camera and phone so sadly I've no pictures to share. The cars were amazing and it was great to see them being driven in the proper manner

Stheno's got a new job that's really busy hasn't she?
I wonder how her gtv is going.
    Rj got banned.
I think for long time posters etc. there should be a voteback system but with penalties attached (maybe loss of pm capabilities)

    A bit of help please.
I'm selling my car as some know its a 2004 Audi tt 3.2. Priced at 6000.

Need people's opinions on what it's really worth. I'm starting to feel its a bit high.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,865 ✭✭✭✭MuppetCheck

Have you looked into its value in the UK?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,603 ✭✭✭thecomedian

It's on autostadt. Might throw it up on pistonheads.

General price in the uk goes from 5000-7000 pounds.

Is it possible to trade it in over there?
    It's a uk import.
