Looks like its going the way they want it to go, petering out.

I wonder why doesn't someone with a copy of the tapes, send them up north to the Irish News or the Belfast Telegraph so they can continue with the story. The DPP are ineffective over the border.

Seems to me the DPP is bloody ineffective this side of the border as well

It was always going to be like that. Today's news is tomorrows fish and chip paper. This time next week, people will be talking about something else.

I knew the Govt would intervene through the DPP and prevent the big boys from having to answer for their sins. FF and FG too close to Anglo all along.
The DPP has had 4 years and did nothing but now it's important that the tapes are not publicised

I'm not so sure about that!
What is it they say about the Irish having long memories?

People may be talking about something else next week, in the absence of new information.
I think the crucial question is, will people forget?
Given the amount of rage these tapes have generated - I really don't think they will!

And still the Irish will do absolutely 100& Sweet FA about it. After the recent leaks, we should be charging the Dail and overthrowing our Government and delivering the message that No, we will not accept bankers who destroyed the country (remember, people have lost their houses and jobs as a result of this recession) now still dictating to us while our spineless elected politicians just shrug their shoulders and claim they are powerless.

Christ, what does it take to get us out there protesting or doing anything? I mean, in years to come tapes will leak out from Richie Bouchier Hayes and his ilk laughing even HARDER at our acceptance of this outrage "You mean we got the Germans to bail us out of this crisis by making up a figure and fabricating the course of events, we destroy the country but keep our massive salary but when this was leaked they STILL bent over the barrel for us??? Yep <cue roars of laugher>

Im ashamed to be Irish sometimes, we really are a cowed nation of pussies when it comes to real revolt.

It's a dead cert that there will be people in the higher echelons of the **** pile who will want things quietened down..... who will not want the dots joined..... possibly because when the last dots would be getting joined up they are 'the dots'.

I've said it before.... I'll say it again..... when you have a regulatory organisation, the Central Bank, which evidently feels that it is normal and acceptable to pass as 'fit and proper' re senior execs (as in the Fitness and Propriety deemed to be pre-requisite, as it was for instance re those senior executiarseholes at Anglo Irish) ...... an individual who was connected to the mass money laundering activities for Mexican drug cartels and other entities with links to terrorism, with approximately 10,000 persons on average per annum murdered by those same Mexican drug cartels (well somebody, or lots of somebodies, has to pay a price for the success i.e. the financial security of others i.e the cartel bosses and their families, and others........ hey..... a bit like in Ireland today re some or all of the top banking boyos, of which the bank official in question is one) to hold the position as chairman in one of our pillar banks...... surely this an indication that the system we have (as administered by the clowns who administer it) is to be regarded as somewhat fcuked up.

Some bits and pieces on twitter on #anglotapes if anyone is interested

Like a brief line or two on tomorrows tapes.

There will be a protest on wednesday out the dail at 6pm. I'll have to double check details and get back to you all again or maybe if anyone is interested, you check it out yourself.

Paul Williams was on the Merium (spelling?) show earlier. He looks like a very nice guy. My mam told me that he was best friends with Veronica Geurin (spelling?) and after her murder, it was expected that he was next and with that he has garda protection. Thank goodness he has that because he's more than likely going to need it with these anglotapes.

He was said something that what we need is a Leverin style inquiry. Have a load of cameras on anyone being questioned.

No offence, but sometimes it appears that being subjects is genetic for the Irish.

Kaiser recently called the Irish a bunch of schmucks over this.

I always believed that the Irish are better off being lead than leading themselves. You can look at this from both a Government and people point of view.

Regarding the Anglo Irish tapes, i think the best thing for us as Irish citizens is to follow Brazil's example and take to the streets in protest, literally bring the whole country to a complete standstill

as sick and all as these tapes are, is there anything in here that is actually a surprise?

people knew about the fact that Anglo was being run by a bunch of cowboys, this just confirms it. the sad thing here is that this will take some heat off the other people who caused this - bertie, all the other bankers, developers, everybody else who drove up the property market and the people who took out these big loans that they couldnt pay back.

i honestly hope theres a call or two with bertie involved. until that traitor is locked in jail, this thing wont be settled.

I first heard these tapes when I was in the car a few days ago. And I actually thought it was Mario Rosenstock taking the piss. Boy was I wrong.

Well currently the facts are the facts, these tapes exist and we have all heard them. Jailing has to now start with bankers OR then to be honest, WE ALL JUST MUGS!!!!

Good luck to you trying to get that done.

Civil disobediance would be another way to protest like stopping to pay bills like the esb bill for an example and this would be a good one to start with because I read today or yesterday on politics.ie about esb rates are due to rise again. It would have to be done nationwide though.

Waste of time too. The Belfast Telegraph are pussies when it comes to this sort of thing. English editor who can't be bothered responding to legitimate issues raised with him. What looks like nepotism re reporting relating to bands, gigs and the like (unusual surname, same as the editors) seems to prevail.

The editor complained recently in the newspaper about Belfast going quiet on Friday afternoons and how important it is that people stay in the city and spend money, etc....... a piece he might have written the previous Friday, or any Friday, as he killed time on the Friday afternoon flight out of Belfast en route home to the UK (Private Eye mentioned that one a few issues ago under the 'hypocrisy' heading....... not that hypocrisy and double standards are rare these days in many sectors.

And.....the Belfast Telegraph is from the same stable as the Independent, whose CEO also appears to be unable to respond to enquiries.

Nope...... as far as 'the Tele' is concerned, I think it would me more of the same.

And anyway...... it would appear that the NI newspapers have been frightened off by both the Levenson Enquiry and the NI Assembly, aided and abetted by the DUP's Sammy Wilson, not to implement the same defamation legislation as the rest of the UK. In future it looks as if the press in NI will be a pussy cat with **** all teeth....or balls...... to expose anything for fear of being sued.

And when that happens, corruption will be rife (not that it isn't already)....... every criminal and fraudster, etc, if investigated will simply pull the libel threat card..... and bank, the story, and unfortunately in many cases the facts, will simply disappear.

Democracy eh........ I hope it comes to pass in my lifetime.

Maybe the Irish News could be an option...... but I wouldn't bet on it either.

The best place would be the Keiser Report. Max Keiser would not censor the tapes and he would gladly comment on them.

The BBC might love to get them.

Or send them into Max Keiser's show.

Release certain tapes at selected time to selected, compliant media.
    Establish narrative.
Express shock and disgust and call for urgent inquiry, within narrow parameters decided upon by key members of the political establishment, to be conducted by the political establishment when it's the political establishment itself that needs to be thoroughly investigated.
    Close ranks.
Sit back and hope to ride out the storm.
    Business as usual in Ireland.
The stakes are particularly high this time, though, as if it doesn't work out there'll be quite a storm.

What we need is a protest made up of people that say thay there's no point in protesting, and/or the Irish are terrible at protesting.

    Now that'd be a protest!

    2 questions -

considering AIB lost about €20+billion, they appear to have gotten off scot-free in terms of focus, media interest and what not, why is this?

where are all these banking execs now who were in power between 06-09, are they still employed in ireland, in the industys? talking about all banks here now, not just Anglo.

When this story dies as they always do I can tell you exactly what will happen.Nothing nothing at all because Irish people dont have the stomach or passion that is seen in other countries to protest. How many will honestly take the time off work.. off school off their holidays etc to walk the streets demanding change, demanding truth, demanding justice for the generations that will pay for these actions ? very few

Let's be honest, the reason we have not seen protests like Cyprus or Greece is because employed and unemployed people know they have it too good in this country, simple as that.

You are right. Bankers could actually ring every single Irish person to gloat about how they set in motion the loss of their house or job etc, all the while singing a tribute to Germany, and we STILL wouldnt do a damn thing about it, bar ringing Joe Duffy (ironic, a man who cant relate to anyones financial problems) and moan "Oh its terrible Joe, they ruined the country , oh they are blackguards, someone shuld do something Joe" etc etc.

Irish people just sit back and take it, we have no backbone, no fight and no rebel in us. After centuries of British Rule, we just do our best to be good little boys and girls and not rock the boat. We are the laughing stock of Europe.
