Is this farming section the most used on boards? Other than after hours which is populated by drunken fools:cool:

Farming can be a lonely ould job in some places . F & F is a great way to hear whats going on from people in every corner of the country . There are not alot of farmers around me that I could chat to or pick up new or old knowledge from and I suspect many other users are the same as myself so maybe thats why its a busy forum .

Nothing wrong its just people dont like to think they might be outbid on land they are renting .

If you're not in BTAP would you think of going in next time it's open? I find STAP good for meeting other farmers and making better connections with people I already knew, but wasn't nosey enough to know what they were at so to speak :pac:

It called etiquette, if someone is renting ground on the long term I would first approach them to see if it okay to enquire, as in my eyes they should have first refusal if its to come up for sale. There is a local prick who is constantly talking to landowners who have long term tenants about when the land comes up for rent say in 2 years time he will give so much extra than current tenant. Talk is cheap but can causes serious problems in any relationship. Going behind someones back to try and do a deal is snaky whatever you are buying

Do, you've nothing to lose. You get to put your case to him on what he's heard and what you said and how you meant it or didn't mean it. Could be a fourth hand Chinese whisper he's heard wrong.

How does First Refusal work? The person selling is hardly going to sell at the first offer, is he?

Last bid might be more reasonable. Renting land doesn't give anyone an entitlement to it and the assumption that it does actually distorts the rental market by encouraging conacre/v.short term lease arrangements.

Hit one of those in a ditch with a strimmer a couple of years ago. Realised it quickly and ran like Bolt. Got six stings all the same though.

Its some Craig when they are you g like that. Is it you that has the twins Hugo or have I got you confused? My young lad is being toilet trained atm. I am minding at the minute too and was left armed with 5 pairs of trousers and jocks by his mother. She said she is meeting a mate for coffee and will be back in an hour. The amount of clothes makes me suspicious though. I reckon I'll vet the call to collect her after a bottle.of wine or three have been consumed.

I was out cutting lawn with youngest lad, oldest lad went in and turned on telly, came in and he had managed to find a channel called "god tv" I never knew there was such a channel,
