Anyone out there got your cheap set of ALDI/LIDL axle stands that you want to get rid of ?

Got a job to do on the jalopy and looking to pick up a set for this purpose.

    Dublin area.

You can get them in Halfords reasonably cheap

Thanks yeah - for a 1 hour job I just thought I could better Halfords and the journey by seeing if anyone closer wants to move on a set.

I might be able to lend you a set, what part of Dublin are you based & how much weight will you be putting on them?
These are Aldi stands & okay for doing the likes of brakes on a car but I wouldn't be crawling underneath it if I were using them to do a clutch .

Aldi and Lidl items meet the German TuV standard, they are a tougher standard to meet than CE marked items that most retailers sell.

My brother in law has the Aldi ones and have to be honest they didn't fill me with confidence. They may be able to take the weight but god only knows how!

    I bought these - http://www.micksgarage.com/proddetails.aspx?pid=1205637&pk=C0E03

I went for the 3 tonne version as it was only a bit extra.

They are so sturdy and solid cast. I had no problem going under the car once up on them, no way they were going anywhere.

I've used the Aldi set for cars up to 1.5 ton many times without issues.
    Rated to 2 tonne.

Have a set in Galway but that's too far for you OP.

I got these in McQuillan Tools. Had the car up on them for a few hours the other day, seemed to be fine.

Based on Googling 'Aldi axle stand collapse', plenty of horror stories out there.
    Here's one http://vagdrivers.net/forums/lofiversion/index.php?t41516.html, read down.

Anyway they look flimsy to me with basically just a few rivets holding them together.
I wouldn't feel confident getting underneath a heavy car with them, especially if it's up high on the stands.

I could find plenty of pics of axle stands, none broken though.
If the car isn't on level surface it quite possible it will shift. After I put it on stand I always give it a few shoves to make sure it won't shift suddenly with me under it.

That's generous Steo M - I'm based in Fairview, so just Northside of City Centre, but work in Sandyford.

Let me know where you're based. You can PM if you're anywhere near.

I have an V6 FTO that I need to get under to unbolt a starter motor, so kerb weight is about 1600kg - It's not a Micra ;-)

or you could buy mine for 12 euro, never used them as I got a set of Halfords ones with the hydraulic Jack. I am in Raheny, just up the Howth road.

If he doesn't want them I'll go next in line, can never have enough stands in our place. There are two under an Integra, four under a Seat and that only leaves two to use under the only car there that currently runs!
