I wonder can any amateur/professional car problem solvers help me. I drive a mondeo. Sometimes it will start no problem first turn other times I turn the key and the approximate lights will ignite but nothing from the engine. No other sound at all. Happened to me today, nothing, came back 6 hours later started perfectly. Checked the battery connections, clean as a whistle. The only thing is the weather was warm when I went to start and it was slightly cooler when it started. ( could be a coincidence)!

Sounds like it's the solenoid on the starter.

was the car driven before you tried to start it or was it sitting over night?

Sometimes it would start after being left for long periods other times, shorter periods. Yesterday morning not a peep, just went out now, car having been idle over night and it started first time. Again I felt it would start because it's not very warm out. Seems to be common thread.

Had the same issues with a Focus and Laguna recently. On both it was the solenoid. Replacing the starters sorted the problem on both cars.

Unfortunately I got a new starter in and still no joy. Could the problem be from area other that starter, maybe fuel pump?

If it turns over but does not fire, common fault is the Crank sensor.
