In fairness, if Byrne was at Munster we'd all be able to see he's better than Zebo!

    He'd be Captain by now.

Surely the logical thing to do would be to make a comparison that is specific to say the last 3 years. Not a whole career.
But nobody's suggesting Cullen would make a good Ireland captain?

And in the last 36 months, POC's gametime has been pretty small no?

    12/13 - 8 (M) 0 (I) 3 (L) = 11 + Babas,
    11/12 - 13 (M) 10 (I) = 23
    10/11 - 10 (M) 5 (I) = 15

Buer was the poster who brought up career consistency and used BOD toi provide stats of his consistency over his career, who has missed a fair bit in the last season or so as well due to injuries.

Cullen's played 19 games in 11/12 and 27 games in 12/13 might suggest he is getting better as he is getting older.*

(he had an operation to rectify a problem and has been fit more or less since.

Scared the same thing will happen to him as has happened to that also hyped Andrew Conway of a few years ago? :D

    What are you talking about?

It's a joke. Andrew Conway was hyped to be a star but didn't really deliver on the hype, then just as he looked like he was beginning to fulfil his potential at Leinster, he signed for Munster.

The hype for Conway and the hype for Byrne are pretty different though. Conway was hyped based on his outstanding school performances and for his outstanding try scoring record at u20 level and B&I cup level. He just didn't replicate it at senior level, at least he has yet to.

The hype for Byrne came pretty quickly as he came from nowhere and played for the Leinster 'A' side. People said he looked exiting and then he went on to get a senior appearance. Then when we got the chance to see him play at u20 level, he disappointed, thus the hype has died down.

Jordi Murphy gets praised a lot but to be fair to him he hasn't really put his foot wrong too many times in the opportunities he's been given.

Think he really benefited from very little hype so no one really had any expectations for him. Compare that to the likes of Ian Nagle, Adam Byrne, JJ Hanrahan, Andrew Conway who's hype to pitch performance ratios would be way off the chart compared to Jordi Murphy.

Also an honorable mention to CJ 'going to be the second coming once he arrives mid-season but doesn't get selected in the Heineken Cup squad' Stander.

Nagle is a level above everyone.

It wasn't a serious post, just a joke.

I pretty much immediately regretted it

I've heard Nagle has never played for Ireland because they felt it would be unfair to play him against mere mortals.

I thought it was because he needed to "bulk up"

In a recent interview Nagle said he hasn't played a game of rugby union in his life. He thought he's been playing tag all this time....

And Henderson is a better actual rugby player.. Give him time to put some weight on that frame.. Agree with the Henderson POC combination.. Could be awesome
Hendersonis already the heaviest lock. He doesn't need to bulk up much at all or he will lose his speed.

I'd be very interested to know how many of the Jordi Murphy hype brigade on here are from Blackrock class of ~2009...

Apart from one poster saying he was better than POM(who was obviously incorrect,Murphy vs. POM isn't even worth debating right now),he's only ever gotten the praise he deseves for a number of strong showings in blue."Jordi Murphy is overhyped" seems to,for some strange reason,be a main part of the Munster thread's "Insert talented uncapped Munster player" hugbox.

While we're discussing Munster players,I hope O'Donnell is involved in the November internationals,he reminds me of Justin Tipuric but with better carrying ability.

Ah yeah, but Stander did score 2 tries on his debut, including one from 90 metres.

I have no doubt that he is the Saviour of Munster Rugby. Whether he will be given enough gametime to perform his role is another matter :P

Stick him at fullback,he'll be faster then Denis Hurley anyway :P

I think a while ago someone on the Munster thread said Stander had bulked up a bit since his arrival.I hope he hasn't lost too much pace but then again, with O'Donnell,Butler,DOC 2.0 and Kilcoyne all as options in the pack they don't desperately need pacey forwards.

Actually,Kilcoyne's another player I hope gets more time for Ireland,he could become Cian Healy Mk.2.

Stander has bulked up a lot from what im hearing but he is still pacy, he will be in a fast back line for Munster next season with POC and TOD as his flankers and him as N8, he will be excellent for Munster hopefully next season if given a chance, as will DOCII at second row if hes given the chance, he will have a big career, with Kilcoyne he is brilliant i hope he is given a real chance for Ireland as he is only going to get better and better for Munster and Ireland.

I don't know what players you think he's overhyped, but of the players he mentioned, the only one that you could argue is overhyped is Dave O'Callaghan. The rest of the players he mentioned,TOD,POM and Kilcoyne, have all delivered.O'Donnell was impressive against Canada.

    Stander and DOCII for sure.

Kilcoyne has been impressive alright but he is firmly behind Church.
TOD has looked good but needs to show more consistency but i'd rate Henry ahead of him along with SOB.
POM has also improved this season but still has a ways to go to match some of the hype around him.

No one has said Killer is better than Healy though?
And TOD...again, no one has said anything more than his performances this season have been very promising and that he deserves a chance with Ireland.

And as for POM...he's always delivered, at every level so far. No one has said he's better than Ferris or SOB for example.

Saying someone is good isn't overhyping them......

I don't think there's a 'hype' brigade about Jordi Murphy at all. There's one poster (me) who thinks that he could be a better a player than POM if he gets the experience. That's pretty much it.

That isn't really what you said though. I don't think anyone would have raised much objection if you said he could be a better player once he gets more gametime under his belt.
