    He should not be congratulating himself no matter what is going on in the background a run on the banks would have been bad for everyone and Duffy nearly caused this.

    A run on a bank can be a self-fulfilling prophecy, all it needs is a well-placed rumour that a bank is in trouble, and hey presto! It loses its deposits overnight. Duffy's broadcast back then was irresponsible and his trying to vindicate himself is disgusting.
