On the tow chains, would another chain loosely linked to the main chain, say every 2ft or so, and also tied at both ends, be the best option. That way if the main chain broke, the second chain would hold everything.

I suppose all has to go through head office now. Local banks have their hands tied and can't sign off on anything. We'd be giving out too if they were too free with it and it got the country into a worse state than it is now..... if that were possible!!!!
ah i just wanted to clear some bills before the end of this month, thought i would have had the money in may:mad::mad: nearly got ploughed out of it today coming off motorway, was coming off slip road on to roundabout to go to mart, there was a tractor and trailer coming so i went to pull out after it, there was a jeep on the inside of the tractor coming into my lane, clipped my mirror and frightened the be jasus out of me

Never had a chain break but the thought of has always freaked me out when ever I had to pull a yoke out.

Genuine question here, not being smart in any way, but how would the blanket help?
Could the chain not break anywhere along its length and if it breaks between the tractor and were the blanket is placed is it not going to do the same damage regardless of the blanket?

Similarly how would weights on the chain help?

I suppose weights would be supposed to weigh the chain down, the problem I see with the weights is if the energy in the breaking chain is large enough it'll just bring the solid weight with it as another missile.

Take a coat, or blanket if you have it and wave it around in the air. it takes a fair bit of effort, and it's soft so has deadening properties. the whipping chain/rope has to do the same thing and will be deadened.

I dont know if it has as much of an effect when the chain breaks between you and the blanket, but I do know it's an established winching safety method.

A day of two halves here. Had a great morning. Had good success flushing a cow. Afternoon decided with the box on and dirty I'd bring a few home from the out farm. Got a fu*king blow out on the box and the spare lent to a neighbour. Sitting on the road here now waiting for him to come.

I'm away fishing for the evening :D
Swans here on the lake and was out on the boat last week and I seen something I never thought I'd see. 5 cygnets were born there about 4 weeks ago and we thought it was the pine martin taking them, three of them and penn & cob were swimming near us and next thing a big m*therf*cking pike comes up and takes a swipe at a cygnet!!!:eek:

We bring the boat over and take a look at it, and next thing daddy swan starts looking a bit angry and comes towards us. So we shot off anyway and next thing the cob starts trampling the cygnet under the water and drowns it:eek:
It was quite badly injured but fecking hell, nature can be cruel.

From €1350 to €2000 for young continentals with calves at foot I heard on local radio farming news at 7 this morning. Wasn't there but David Quinn said there was increased demand. Older cows made €950 - €1700

Sorted and home now. Neighbour was mortified, the sort that rarely borrows and always returns promptly. Glad that he was about to be able to bring it out to me.

Dacian Ciolos 21 minutes ago · We had a long plenary meeting with the EU agri ministers aiming at revising the negotiating mandate of the Irish Presidency, preparing the next trilogue tomorrow. The session is now suspended for bilateral meetings.

" aiming at revising the negotiating mandate of the Irish Presidency"

Interesting phrase, wonder what it means in English, has Ciolos taken the burdizzo to Coveney.

As far as I know tomorrow. But there's nothing saying they need to make a deal tomorrow or in six months or in a year. that will leave us with so called toolbox of options to row over internally, which is expected to happen September October time but is already begun a long time back if you ask me. A deal isn't certain tomorrow.
