My contractor was drawing corn into a mill one day and knew the weight of the trailer so to save queuing for the weigh bridge on the way out he unhooked the trailer and edged the tractor off the bridge, only about six inches to a foot. The tipping pipe was still connected. The trailer somehow rolled back and snapped the tipping pipe. The end attached to the tractor sprung back, broke the back window and the left hand window and lapped itself three times around the rear pillar of the cab. Never touched the driver although he says the wind off it took the cap off his head. Blessed to not be decapitated.

Jaysus don't feel so bad now... f**kin ragin' scrapped all the side of the car reversing into a gateway yesterday evening. Sun very strong. Pulled wing mirror and door handle clean off. I wouldn't mind but twas a f**kin wide gateway 16' at least. Don't know what the f**k I was doing. Herself telling me 'wouldn't it be worse if crashed over a ditch and got hurt' didn't help. Gutted!!

Is lending money not how they make a profit? surely if someone is a safe bet its in their interest to lend to them.

I am convinced some of it is so you will think that they are doing you a favour by lending to you, in order to stop you shopping around for the best rate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,173 ✭✭✭✭Muckit

Banks do seem to be open for business again re lending once you have your affairs in order and can show that you can make repayments.

Did he ask if a claim would affect his NCB? My auld fella got walloped by a car when going to visit his employer a few years back. But because he hadn't claimed in 25 yrs or something, he was allowed to keep his NCB and still claim. So the other party got off scot free even though it was their fault. He's regretting being as nice now as his arm has been affected ever since. (lesson learned, never drive with your arm on the gearstick) and because he's left handed it made it even worse. Has an appointment in Galway in 2 weeks time for an MRI and some other scan. 3rd appointment since it happened and he's on tablets for it too. The nerves in it are f**ked.

The way I would look at it if I got a loan of the tractor and it happened I would replace it.Money should never come between good friends or a good working relationship.

he was doing you a favor, anything that happened at that time as a result of the favor he was doing is your responsibility to put right.

    Tow chains:

The best thing for a rope or chain is a heavy blanket laid on top of it in the middle. Not many people have one, but a wax jacket is also useful.

something small and solid is just another missile, something relatively big and light, but not too light, will dissipate a lot of energy.

Also straps are much safer than either ropes or chains, their shape and material means they dissipate the engery very easily too. I've broken one or two and they nearly fall flat on the ground.

Davy is, and always has been, a tool. I have to admit I wasnt much of a fan of ger loughnane at the time (because they were beatin us) but he was a good manager. Davy aint

Never had a chain break but the thought of has always freaked me out when ever I had to pull a yoke out.

Genuine question here, not being smart in any way, but how would the blanket help?
Could the chain not break anywhere along its length and if it breaks between the tractor and were the blanket is placed is it not going to do the same damage regardless of the blanket?

Similarly how would weights on the chain help?

Kev, nothing went wrong everything went tight I'd say and you and your neighbour are lucky men. Give to his wife and tell her to take him on a break.

I suppose all has to go through head office now. Local banks have their hands tied and can't sign off on anything. We'd be giving out too if they were too free with it and it got the country into a worse state than it is now..... if that were possible!!!!
