Had some great battles tonight against standard A.I in 3v3 matches, seems very aggressive.

i found standard to be really hard when playing as Russians, with Germans it's easy. Or at least a whole lot less German soldiers die in the process.

Sending wave after wave of men to their doom as a Russian commander just reminds me of zap brannigan in futurama :D

I'm finding I suck balls at both factions :pac:

I've won 1 game in over 20.... I used to dominate in COH :(

It reminds me of what I've read about Russian infantry tactics for the early and middle part of the war and all of World War I. :p

I'm finding playing as Germans to be the easier of the two. I have won a few games online but will really need to improve my micro management to compete properly.

What I usually do is focus on Infantry and mobility early on, maintaining map control and always having the enemy react to me. I usually get some Mortars and MG42's to lock down control points from enemy infantry early on, while not being afraid to pull them back and take another CP if things get too hot.

Flame Half tracks and Panzershreck squads for tier two to take out any Russian Light vehicles or Anti tank that get put out onto the map. Upgraded Grenadiers are also a must, all the while using their AT grenades on any light vehicles I come across. I don't necessarily have to destroy their light vehicles just take out the engine and hopefully render them useless untill I can get my Panzers out. I try and maintain around 30 fuel income, building fuel depots as needs be. I usually go for the general that gives me the Mortar half track's to allow me to react to the enemy trying to take isolated control points. I find mortars to be a great way to get the enemy to advance into an area I want them to advance into, having a kill zone with Mg42's waiting.

The first Panzer is the most important unit of the game for me. I try and bait any Russian light vehicles into my panzer then push on from there. The Panzers really are the most valuable unit of the game, being able to out manoeuvre AT guns and easily being able to go toe to toe with any T-34's. I always keep a Pioneer squad close by in case I get hit by Russian infantry AT grenades that take out the tracks. Once I have two Panzer's or a panther the enemy usually focuses on them so it is easy to take the rest of the map with my infantry. The key is to always keep the enemy occupied trying to react to my tanks and mortars. Once you stop the enemy's fuel income the result is inevitable.

My tactics are really hampered by the blizzard condition maps however so I tend to avoid them if I can. Has anyone got any other tactics for Germans?

Enjoying the game so far and will probably end up sinking a lot of time into it. Any word if there will be much of a graphical improvement on full release?

I ordered from simplygames and it hasn't shipped yet :(
Its a present for someone hence the need for physical box.

    UPDATE:
Simplygames now saying their stock allocation was cut, and offering a steam CD key or cancel order .

Starting using a friends build order and having much more success with the Germans than before.

    This works with any commander.

    Build Order
    2 x Pioneer
    2 x Grenadier
    1 x HMG4
    1 x Grenadier
    Tech to Tier 2
    1 x Scout Car
    1 x Panzer Grenadier
    1 x Med Bunker
    1 x Half track
    Tech to Tier 3
    1 x Panzer IV

The plan is to cap at least 1 fuel point and 1 munitions point and and to hold it long enough to tech to Tier 2 as possible to scout car to counter enemy scout cars. Preservation of units is key. Spare pioneer units are sent to cap enemy territory and if I win a big battle in my initial captured territory and force a general retreat I will then consider pushing to cut my opponent off.

At tier 2 depending on number of scouts car or snipers the enemy is fielding I may get more than 1 scout car myself. I sometimes consider the Flamer upgrade on the half track as well.

On Moscow Outskirts which is a huge map for a 1v1, I do a 3 x Pioneer start and skip tier one all together capping a fuel point and as much standard capture points as possible as well as the munitions point beside my base. Pioneers try and avoid enemy fights as much as possible and have units chase them to buy you time. The 3rd pioneer caps one point, builds a munitions cache on it and then retreats back to base to build the Tier 2 building, then 1 x Panzer Grenadier comes out which will own Conscript squads 1 on 1 at this stage. They will push out and engage enemies and recapture points lost at this stage while my decisive flamer half track comes out and for a while makes short work of conscripts. A scout car is out next to counter enemy scouts and then another Panzer Grenadier squad. I find this force usually sufficient to win a decisive engagement and win almost complete map control and the game.

I'm getting this message (games planet) about a multiplayer key, it's the main key needed, right?

"You will be asked for the following keys during installation or to activate extra content:
    Multiplayer key: 8C6W4-TP750-4IAGG"

    note: actual key not used.

Great to see the game is launching worldwide tonight instead of regional release times. I think it will be a long night for me! :D

If anyone wants some helping getting into the multiplayer with this I will happily teach the basics of the game and how units compare to one an other.

Add me on steam lads if ye want, username is captain_panzer.

added ye there, the campaign is deadly and frustrating as I've gotten as far as Stalingrad and the tactics I've had to employ so far have all ended up in a general retreat which yeah.. historically accurate, but still frustrating. Callin' it quits for the night, looking forward to Stalingrad tomorrow :)

    Around 7/8ish

Should be able to get on later. My steam ID is colmkavs(I think, I can never remember it).

I read the Kotaku review there. Seems the Theater of war gamemode is far better than the campaign missions. Bit of a shame about the Campaign missions but not really that important I suppose. They are more of an extended tutorial.

Actually played a bit of Tales of Valor there last night when the Beta was closed and the German mission where you defend the Panzers until nightfall was brilliant! Never got around to playing it before!

Did I read that you can now play Russian versus Russian/German versus German in multiplayer? Has anyone tried this?

This should do wonders for any early balance issues if so.
