Company of Heroes 2

Oh please God let this be true.

The rumours section of the latest issue of PC Gamer magazine says that, in addition to its work on yet another Dawn of War game, THQ's Relic is also gearing up for something to do with Company of Heroes.

They don't explicitly say what that is, but the chances of it being an expansion to a 2006 game are, well, remote. So after I get down hoping this is true, I'm going to hope it's a sequel, and not some action game spin-off.

We've contacted THQ for comment and will update if we hear back.

This'll make my year if it happens.

it's great news if true. I *loved* company of heroes, although never played it online. for some reason I just couldn't get into any of the addons though. one of them was kinda ok.. but i forget which one, but they just weren't anywhere near the quality of the original campaign

Another rollercoaster today. Rumour mill is in full swing that THQ is about to sack 170+ staff. I hope its just the Spongebob and Red Faction staff :P

I wish they would get off their asses and make another Homeworld.

They've let go of all their kiddies IP's so hopefully theyll actually keep the good ones.

Don't know what that senior is still doing in charge tho, he was there when share prices were about 33 quid, theyre now worth 70c or so a piece.

And also, hope they announce dow3 first! It's deffo on the way, was playing with one of the devs a few weeks ago and a slip of the tongue kinda let him down! :P

    Fun fun fun!

did he say anything about company of heros?

    No, no mention of it.

He's the balance guy in charge of dow2 ATM, BC is his name, I don't think he'd have any involvement in coh2 at any rate.

Is the gameplay of company of heroes much like men of war?

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 17,137 Mod ✭✭✭✭cherryghost

Yes. Personally I think Men of War gets bogged down a bit and slow, compared to CoH, which I find very fluid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23 Mavvvy

Best way I could describe the differance between the two games is, Men of War is great at throwing chaos and unpredictability at you ie. when your Stuart magically disables the turret on a Tiger.

While Company of Heroes has less micro, more production value in its design (although its getting a bit old now), and is more of a traditional rts.

Both great games for very different reasons.

There's demo of CoH. You should try it. I've tried a demo of MoW but I quickly returned to CoH.

I played COH religiously for years but Men of War Assault Squad is so rewarding, and it's a much harder game too.

CoH2 announced in PC Gamer, June issue

I wonder if it'll be WWII again. A cold war era version would be cool.

I'm not sure if they can top the first one. It played so beautifully. The graphics and sound were perfect. They may break the spell by adding needless features.

    It's the Eastern Front 1941-1945.

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 17,137 Mod ✭✭✭✭cherryghost

If its not a broken formula, don't fix it. I expect better sound and visuals, but I reckon they won't change the gameplay mechanics much.

I was rubbish at the original, but was still compelled to be pummelled religiously. Bring on the pain!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 579 ✭✭✭spoofilyj

Delighted thast they are finally making a sequel! I played through the original load of times, in fact I think I'll start a new campaign this evening.

I hope it retains all the good things from the original but improved visuals and sound and i hope they dont do a Red Alert 3 on it!

I also desperately hope there will be another World in Conflict.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 23,556 ✭✭✭✭Sir Digby Chicken Caesar

god yes.. another world in conflict would be amazing

also this is the first time in years that I've typed it properly first time and not had to edit my post after I typed world in fonclift \o/

For the closed beta you must use a code from eg. Eurogamer Expo. Then you can sign up here: http://www.companyofheroes.com/beta.

For the open beta you will get beta access by preordering (eg. Steam).

There are also Eurogamer Expo beta codes being auctioned on Ebay for charity:

In the meantime if you're looking for a CoH clan for adults I can recommend Easy Company (http://ec-coh.com/news.php). It's a CoH only clan that has just celebrated its 6th anniversary. We have our own forum and TS server.

There's also a new CoH2 site at http://www.coh2.org/, where a lot of the top players are hanging out.

CoH and both expansions are €6.23 (for the lot) on steam

Anyone in the Vancouver area can apply to test the game on-site: http://community.companyofheroes.com/forums/company-of-heroes-2-discussion/topics/Want-to-test-CoH2-at-Relic

I think the closed beta will start very soon.

Between this and Rome Total War 2, 2013 is going to be a very good year for PC strategy gaming.

I think everyone will be happy that RELIC has ended up in the hands of SEGA, they seem to be doing good work with Creative Assembly for total war.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,467 ✭✭✭McSasquatch

    Happy indeed!

Sega are making some smart choices in the IPs they've picked up in recent years, and as a PC gamer it's nice to see so many of them be PC exclusives like TW and CoH.

Seen this on g2play.net for €29.99, standard version with no pre-order bonuses. Still cheapest I've seen it yet. Offer ends in about 10 hours time.
