    Hi

Just wondering has anyone bought the new Humax box and if they are having recording issues with it or if anyone has any suggestions for a Freesat recorder?

    Thanks

I got one in November through my brother who lives in London. Fantastic piece of kit, no problems of any sort with it so far and would highly recommend it. I'm not sure how you would buy one in Ireland, I presume they can be bought online from the UK. I wonder do Currys Ireland stock them and if not, would they ship one in from the UK for you ?

Have you got it connected to the Internet? I'd love to hear how those special features work in Ireland.

Yes, I did connect it to the Internet and as I already suspected, the BBC iPlayer is geo blocked, all the menus on iPlayer come up fine, but it won't play anything. However the ITV Player works fine on it. 4OD and Demand 5 are to come on it soon, so don't know yet if they will work or not, my guess is that 4OD will work as it doesn't seem to be geo blocked on the laptop or iPad, I doubt that Demand 5 will work. The new fancy Epg doesn't require an Internet connection. However the 7 day backwards Epg facility is tied in to the iPlayers, so you can go backwards on Itv but not BBC. You can do loads of other stuff on it too, like putting your photos etc on it, but personally i just use it to watch and record tv ! The graphics etc are really good compared to the old Foxsat and it definitely seems faster and more responsive also. Despite the lack of BBC iPlayer, as I already said, it's a great piece of kit and if you can survive without Sky, it's every bit as good as a Sky+HD box.

I've had the Humax HDR 320Gb model for the last couple of years. I can't recommend it highly enough. The picture is superb, and the interface very intuitive and quick.
It's never let me down on a recording ever.
My parents have Sky, and I may just be more used to the Humax, but I think it beats the Sky box for both picture quality and ease of operation.

Thanks everyone. You've left me in no doubt it's a good box to get unfortunately seem to be sold out one in Ireland. Know I can pick one up secondhand but no warranty or in the UK but would prefer to pick one up here.

No experience with this retailer bit price with free delivery for a 1TB version seems comparable to UK prices:

I have used www.tvtrade.ie several times, very good retailer, he has option to collect from his store 6 days a week in Portarlington, Laois.

He also has hundreds of brilliant instructional videos on all products he sells on his YouTube channel.

this is probably a silly question but is there a definitive list of channels you can get on the humax box? can you get the discovery channels? how do you get the irish channels?

    sorry for all the questions.

Look on freesat.co.uk for a listing of the freesat channels. There are also Free to Air channels you can get, but I never really bother with these.
You'll need a different set-up to get the Irish channels, like an aerial and a saorview box or saorview compatable tv - you won't be able to get them through the Humax.

No they are pay channels, not available for free, only on Sky and UPC.
how do you get the irish channels?

You need a totally seperate box. It means 2 or 3 remotes. The closest thing to this for the Irish channels is the Saorview approved box with internal hard drive that works with series link. It's only just been launched (see terrestrial forum) and is 215 Euro. Review of the saorview box here:

Use http://www.unblock-us.com/ to get the web stuff working. I use it for all the devices I own. It makes Netflix library USA as a bonus. It works for the PS3 bbc I player so I'd say it will work on this. You get a free no obligation trial anyways.

YouTube added to the On Demand menu since yesterday. I have to say, fantastic picture quality on it, except obviously on amateur videos uploaded by the public. Music videos etc are Fab on the big screen, compared to watching YouTube on a laptop etc. The recent software update has also improved the picture quality on the ITV Player ( which is not geoblocked ).

Is playback of videos via USB still working? That's my number one extra.

    Cheers

I've no idea to be honest with you, never used it. If it worked before, why wouldn't it work now ?

    Hi

New to this. If I buy the Humax box do I just plug the cable going into my sky box into this box and I am live with free view stations.

Basically, yes. During the setup you will be asked to input a UK postcode which sets the regional UK channels you watch.

I use a NI postcode (BT2 8HQ) others use a London postcode etc.

Yes, just be aware you need two cables from your dish. Depending on how new or old your sky box is, it may only have one cable. It will pick up the free satellite channels, but beware RTE, TV3 etc are NOT free on satellite, so it will not pick them up.

It's quite simple to setup. For "on demand" you need to also connect the box to your internet with a cable. Some on demand shows are blocked in Ireland.

Does anybody know how to get into the router settings of the Humax HDR-1000 please ?
It was simple on the older humax, but the new HDR menu wont let me access the router settings to edit them, would appreciate any advice on changing these.

I have spent hours on google trying to solve this.

    I'm, such an idiot.

Read the entire thread, clicking on links to check prices for the box only to see that you need a dish!

At the moment only ITV player and iPlayer available on the Humax - ITV player works in Ireland, iPlayer doesn't. It remains to be seen if Channels 4 and 5's players, when they arrive, will work here.

Plug in an ethernet cable though I believe some of the newer models will work with wifi or Humax wifi dongle.

This feature is only available on boxes that came with the latest software installed.
