    Hi

I have got a good price on a BMW 04 with only 60,000 on the clock. I am hearing that its all well and fine getting a BMW at a good price but then if anything goes wrong (parts, tyres, services etc..) it costs a bomb. I also know insurance will be chunky but I really would like to it if the car Iam looking at is a good purchase. Anybody any thoughts? Not sure if this is the right board to use so feel free to point me in the right direction.

Moved out to own thread for exposure.

OT, I wouldn't say that BMW are extra expensive to service or get parts for compared to other similar brands.
BMW are quite common so if anything breaks you may be in luck and find someone who is breaking a similar model and you can get the part from them.
I've got tyres from camskill for my BMW, wasn't particularly expensive (wasn't runflats).
Insurance etc will depend or engine size, NCB and others so that will depend too.

With only 60k on it you will want to keep the service history up to date. It doesn't have to be with a dealer but do use someone who will stamp the service book.

    What model/engine /spec?

This. Gonna be a world of difference in running costs between a 318i and a 760li!

Without knowing the model then this thread is pointless really.

Depends on the car, I was quoted about 500e on a water pump for my e60.. electric pump, average belt driven is 100ish? Got one in the end for 300e but still pricier than most.

Presume it's a 530d as the 520d wasn't available back in 2004? 60k miles is crazy low mileage for a 9 year diesel, does it have a fully verified service history?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,882 ✭✭✭pa990

    a 9yr old diesel with 60,000miles/ 100k KM

ohhh.. i dunno, but then again, it wont have a DPF etc, do maybe it'll be ok after a very thorough service and then again maybe not.

Afaik the E60 530d back then had a DPF or at least some of them did.

    Yep I have a E60 2004 530d she had a DPF.
The rule is if the exhaust faces straight out then it has one, if it turns down it doesn't.

So we are still guessing as too what car it is, any chance you might clarify properly?

Depending what car you are used to and your age insurance and tax may increase.

Service ain't too bad on them. Parts can be expensive but so can any car parts.

But as others have said if its a diesel with low miles I'd be worried, as most big engined diesels from 04 usually would've being bought for high miles, so I'd be worried its being clocked.

Don't forget to pull the flaps out of her or it could get expensive..
