Richie Hoares solution for the Ashcroft question isnt fully right as when you do the reconciliation its not quite right, not sure if theres a variance missing couldnt follow the institutes example

Is it in Gourmet? I think he puts down a 3,750 sales price variance as adverse when it's actually favourable ([3.10 - 3.05] x 75,000)

Taking it very easy- strange with the exam so close I have so little motivation. Think it's worn me down tbh. All I did today was a heap of man acc questions but only spent 4/5 hours on it.

Done with audit and SFMA till cramming the day before. Doing Tax and FR for next 5 days now. Still have a bit to cram in for tax but can't see myself doing anything more than 5/6 hours a day (excluding breaks admittedly)

I'm finding myself the same I did the mock sfma paper today and that was it, I'm going to sort out my folder tabs galore in the morning for it and then FR and tax too. Just finding myself so tired and thinking sleep is important too:) not prepared enuf for management at all but I know I need to spend major time on FR and tax too and I have loads left to do for all of them

How does everyone feel about consolidation (consol cashflow, fx subsidiary) ?
I'm wondering if it's really going to be an advantage not having it as a q1.

I'm exactly the same!! I'm just fed up, only doing 5 hours a day at the moment, I've never been so relaxed before exams ever!! I think it's because they're open book. Usually I'm panicking now cramming in every bit of information before the exam but I'm calm because I know all the books will be with me!

I'm ok-ish with it, but still make a mess of retained earnings and NCI every time, which is where most the marks are! I'm prayin for a consolidated cash flow!

For me it'll feel like an advantage, just because if it is one big 50/60 mark question and I make a mess of it, it'll throw me off and get me worked up in the exam. Whereas having the q1 split into two questions, if I make a mess of one, I can move on a start a fresh with the next without feeling like I've thrown 50 marks away!

Cash flows I did a few weeks back and cant for life of me remember now!:/

This day next week SFMA will be almost over. How are people preparing for this subject, it just seems so broad. Any tips on the main topics to cover for this subject.

I think I'm trying to focus on understanding what to look for in the question. Most of the examiners reports point out mistakes that students have made from not reading the question properly and understanding the material. So I've been spending a lot of time reading past questions and reading the solutions to link what they got in the solutions and where they got it from in the question, if that makes sense?

I've also made myself very familiar with the layout of the notes. I don't think actually 'learning' the notes will get me anywhere. Famous last words though....

    Hi guys,

Just wondering does anyone have a good bank of questions (and solutions) for tax? Past papers are grand but due to rules changing they are only so useful.

There were some specific tips in the presentation that was given by Paul Monahan on Nov 19th... The recording and a notice with the handout for the presentation are below. Maybe worth a watch if you have time.

The past paper solutions should all be updated for the 2012 finance act, so all the rules should be relevant to our course.

Can someone please put me out of my misery, FR, Atlas question from Autumn 2012, where did they get the discount rate to be used? I am banging my head off the wall trying to figure it out. There is no discount rate given in the question and the solution has used 9%?

I don't have the paper in front of me but I think I went over it last night. Isn't it stated at the very end of question 2 to use 9% where relevant?

If I remember correctly I came across that a few weeks ago! Yeah it was just left out by mistake I would imagine
